Thanks all for updates. Wasn't sure what the deal was with Monte Betrayal tweets.
And have to say, reading Monte's post, while I don't agree with his POV, I understand it. Feels like Hollywood. That people hustle whatever they can to work. And some people get good advice, and listen, and some don't.
Seen people do way sleazier and back-stabbing things to some of their "closest" friends. Monte's letter feels like the truth to him, that back in the day, they were trying do to anything they could to make anything at all happen. Anything. Like 10 thousand other kids. So they signed whatever paper was shoved in their face. Everyone does.
Feels like Monte is proud of what they did then. Adam is not
Adam is right. It's mediocre music that buries all of Adam's abilities. Adam's Libra Rising was showing, he was in a band, so he was going to meld with others and support their "sound". Can't imagine how hard the producers had to work to get Adam's star abilities mixed down.
So Monte and Adam disagree. Not the end of the world. Not necessarily the end of them. It's show biz.
Monte and Adam have a big range of fortune right now. And smarts. And mouths to feed. Monte may just see this as he says he does - something over which he has no control, but, dang, he played well on that stuff, what's wrong with any body who hears it feeling the same way. People are going to try to make a buck off Adam, yeah, but still, the music and playing were great.
Should Monte say he isn't proud when he is? Should he bury his feelings and say, yes, Adam's right, they shouldn't be trying to make a buck off this old stuff? Hard to do if you're proud of your music. And sleazy buck-making is done as often as pumping gas.
Monte should realize what a lucky guy he is to have his wagon hitched tp Adam's star. But he may also want his own star shining. And he apparently is very confused about doing that well, and good business dealings, and what's proper behavior outside of Hollywood. Or to your friends.
Not really worried about this "album". No radio station is going to mistake it for the long-awaited sophomore jewel. It's really hard to sell records. Really hard. Especially albums. Without support - and Adam saying Don't Buy It - how is this going to make impact? Can't imagine tons of sales.

Anyone thinking of buying the album might want to read the comments left on Monte's blog post. Most fans are being very eloquent, balanced and polite, and though there is a range of opinion, the fact that what is at issue for most is the deceptive marketing, timing and titling of the thing is really made clear. Ultimately for me it doesn't really make a huge numeric impact what a small group of fans who follow Monte as well as Adam choose to do individually. It matters what confused casual fans of Adam do on Amazon, itunes and in record stores, and the impact of possible lost sales, and confusion about his musical direction.Who knows how the final numbers will work out, and how many of the "Take One" 100k units sold could have been FYE sales instead instead of just additional buys, but I feel bad for anyone who mistakenly took Take One home, and will mistakenly do the same for this album. If this was just a 'Citizen Vein featuring Adam Lambert and Monte Pittman!' release, especially one at a different time and MARKETED CLEARLY AS SUCH, and Adam didn't explicitly come out against it, lots of stans would probably check it out. I think Welsford is making a financial calculation that he doesn't mind losing the hardcore fan buyers who will boycott and making Adam mad, because he figures the deceptive marketing will end up getting him more total buyers in the end, many of whom don't know Adam's stance on the release, and even that it's not his official release. I can't support it on any level. I think you hit the nail on the head. And this is why fans are so upset, we've already seen how a record like this can muck this up for Adam's real album and how it has plagued him for years. This is what disappointed me about Monte's statement. Either he doesn't get the negative impact this type of marketing will do to Adam's new album or he does and is still choosing to promote it. If Monte was put in a position where he had to pick sides, he didn't pick Adam's. There was no acknowledgment of Adam's disapproval of this. Nor was there a statement condemning the shady marketing used by Welsford but instead a plug for his site. I don't think anyone blames him for wanting the music out, but disappointment for not showing a little solidarity with Adam and the fans who have also supported Monte. All in all I feel badly for everyone involved, except for Welfsford. ITA... maybe this suggestion could be brought to Monte's attention.. that CV be added to the Title of BFM.. bet the fandom would settled down a bit.. If he can Thank the guy in his linear notes then he could probably send him a message making this suggestion.. because while he may have no control about when and if the music gets published.. he damn sure can talk to the guy..

IMO, his silence speaks louder than words. I agree...it is no accident. But his silence is also deafening...he is in-actively killing a multi-year relationship by not stepping in. Guess that is what he wants. Life moves on I suppose....hope there are no regrets later.... Warning: Entirely unwarranted armchair psychoanalysis and conclusion-jumping to follow. I doubt anyone posting here would take exception to the contention that Adam is a very loyal person. Given that he is loyal, and undoubtedly values loyalty in others, he would perhaps be even more affected than most if he believed his loyalty was betrayed by someone he thought he could trust. I don't know if he feels betrayed by Monte. I'm not in Adam's head, or in Adam's confidence. I'm just saying that if he does feel betrayed, it would not surprise me if he were hurt enough to be willing to let the relationship go. Adam is loyal, but he also possesses a great deal of self-respect. He is nobody's doormat or punching bag. It's likely the two of them already weathered one storm with Lisa's Twitter rant, and whatever prompted it. Although they worked together subsequently, it would not shock me if that incident left scars that didn't entirely heal - and left Adam less willing to "turn the other cheek" again.

I don't necessarily think Monte is "the bad guy"-- life just isn't that black and white. I think he is a guy with an agenda, and that agenda is to further his own career and put more money into his bank account. In reading Monte's post, it reminded me of Steve Cooke's (except way more articulate): "we wanted to make music, someone gave us the opportunity to do so, and now they want to release the music. i have no control. do what you want. don't hate me. oh, and it's only rock and roll all about the music. " Monte says he's proud of the music and that's fine. Adam says it doesn't reflect who he is. Two different perspectives. But it's Adam's name on the album. If it gets retailed, it'll be filed under Lambert. ITA with Rabbitrabbit. The only people who will buy this album will be, A) a small number of Adam fans who dont' have an ethical issue with it, and B) casual fans or new fans who hear Adam's new single, see the album, and buy it thinking it's Adam's current music. The fact that Take One sold 100K is plenty of motivation for the people releasing this. The small amount of money that Adam would make on this album is certainly not worth the risk of brand confusion and potential dissatisfied customers. Naturally, he's against it. Monte on the other hand, serves to make what for him is probably a significant profit. Naturally, he's for it. Which is probably why he said "do whatever you want," but still included a link to the album site. And why he said, " if you like what you hear, you should buy it and support everyone involved with this album." Really? Even the bastard Welsford who is behind all this and who stands to profit the most? What we have here is two competing agendas, two different perspectives. I'm on Adam's side. I also agree, and I take Monte at his word that he didn't have any control or input into the release. I think in the rest of his statement he's standing by what he sees as his economic, business, and artistic best interests, and Adam is standing by his artistic and business best interests which are in stark opposition. On the other hand, I haven't myself seen any evidence that they are close friends, and maybe they never have been. They have had an amicable business relationship as far as we know up through the glamnation concerts (it may have gotten rocky afterwards), and do well together on stage. For business and artistic reasons, Adam may decide to keep him as part of his backing band, or may not. Fans are going to decide based on these two perspectives as NoAngel said. I'd also just add, if you want to support Monte financially or artistically, you can always buy his PL&D album which Adam has endorsed. If someone wants to support Monte just because he's been a great friend to Adam, or assume the very worst of him because they've been so close in the past, for myself I'd question both assumptions. We don't really know much about their personal relationship, and I'd look at the business relationship aspect of it to make up my mind instead. ETA: they may very well have been close in the past as rhiannasu implies, I just haven't followed enough to know.

fifthhousesun, first, it's great to see you here! I was wondering if you knew that Monte posted a link to the BFM website in his blog. The mods here took the links out, so not sure if you were aware.
