Mika, yes! If they meet, someone will hopefully fill him in on all the insane ways this guy has been involved with the history of modern music. Any time we're angsting about Adam, just thinking of opportunities like this makes everything ok.
That video about the beginning of hip hop...and Blondie/ The Clash was fasinating.
And to top it off he worked on Beavis and Butt-head Experience (co-writer of “Come to Butt-head”). ;D
Can't believe I never heard of this guy before.

Jamie wrote: " I get the feeling that inside the music indusry Adam's cred as a person and as a singer/musician is growing. You can feel it with all these new collabs. Now the rest of the world just has to catch up. "
This let me to thinking about musical cred vs pop fame [and yes, I know I am setting up a dichotomy that does not have to be there but just do a 'what if' here]. What do you suppose Adam would do if given the option of one or the other....but not both? I don't mean this to be something contentious but as an examination of values and goals and dreams.
Two singers that come to mind right away are kdlang and Rufus Wainwright. Both have enormous musical cred amongst their peers yet kd has had more 'fame' than rufus but you could not call her a pop star. A better example is Rufus....he is often included at really prestigious events and generally lauded as a musical genius and Leonard Cohen has openly 'annointed' him as his successor.
I can't even stick around for the discussion we could have on this as it is bed time ....have to get up early to catch the ferry to go OCCUPY Victoria!!
Hope I am not catching up from a jail cell or hostel tomorrow...hahaha

Apparently he is the Zelig (old Woodie Allen movie) of pop music (except he was actually involved instead of just popping in photos :D ). I'm excited at the prospect of Adam expanding his circle to people like this. Fingers tightly crossed. (I feel I owe Sam Sparro a present! OK he can keep that mustache even though I keep expecting him to sing 'Puttin on the Ritz' lol.)

Mika, thanks for the link to the Nile Rogers book exerpt. He seems to be just as talented a writer as he is a musician. Impressive and inspiring. Alison and Jaime - Happy to share! The NYT piece was tweeted to me and I was just bowled over - such gorgeous, heart-felt writing. I knew about NR's eminence as a music producer but had no idea he could write like this. Then I was visiting a friend recently who has bkstore and she'd gotten an advance copy of his book; I skimmed and it's all fascinating (though I still love the first part the most). The way Rodgers has been involved w/iconic or key pop culture moments was a revelation. Grace Jones and Studio 54 - hah! (And I know nothing about it b/c I am not a gamer but a friend claims NR's soundtrack work w/Halo and that other big game are also important. I'll have to take his word for it ) Anyway, re early east coast rap and then hip hop: Sugarhill Gang and Rapper's Delight, I found the vid below and am adding it. It's all fascinating (Blondie/The Clash - oh for a time machine) but most interesting comment is NR story around 3:00. (Anyway, after that is gratuitous recent Jimmy Fallon/Justin Timberlake history of rap medley which I think I posted at the time as I'm amused that it's both entertaining and pretty accurate as a very abbreviated cliffnotes history of hip hop. Note the first jam.) Fallon/Timberlake Sorry if this is spam but I really love seeing cultural connections and one type of music flowing into another. It would be lovely if Adam - who is a sponge for knowledge - could spend some quality time w/NR. (He could do his Oprah thing for hours and hours :D) Mika, thanks for sharing, those were both awesome! Mszue about your question, Mika's videos were a reminder for me that while some artists are critical darlings that never have mainstream commercial success, new movements and pioneers in music often start out very much on the fringe, and have to literally jump up on stage and grab their moment in the spotlight until finally commercial success and the weight of history gives their their full due of critical "cred". Have fun occupying Victoria!

Interesting! Apparently there is already an album titled Beg for Mercy. Can they use that name again?
