"Beauty leads to attraction, but intelligence leads to love!"
Somehow I can't quite diss the critic as much as others do, even though I understand why Brian is upset. He has every right to be. I was at the concert last night with my DH, who saw QAL last in 2014. He loved it!!!! However, we had our discussions and I had my thoughts. I will write about that separately.
Oh, I would have just ignored that „tribute act“ nonsense and liked the rest of the first article. I was just wondering about that second article, because that was unnecessary IMO. Until then I had nothing against the man.
Oh ok, got it. I agree that the first Mercury News article was rather positive in general, except for the "tribute act" which clearly and rightfully upset Brian. Then again, the QAL tour is celebrating the music of Queen and legendary Freddie Mercury, and FM still is a synonym for Queen for many. That's just how it is. The critic definitely liked the fact that Adam dutifully held his Freddie speech and put himself in the right place, and thus he had no problem with complimenting Adam on his delivery. I honestly have not given much thought about the second article and only scanned over it.

Just went back and read that whole Mercury review. The guy does give Adam some props for his vocals. And he apparently liked the staging and the songs themselves. But generally the whole review is an assertion that even Brian and Roger aren't worthy of being in a band that is even partially the original Queen. It's absurd. Brian's words comes from his heart and soul. After all these years, he and Roger DO still care about the integrity of their legacy. And they prove it with every show.
And that reviewer also expressed that pet peeve of mine. He suggested that QAL is doing really well right now because of the success of the movie. This guy must be clueless about their previous world tours that filled huge venues all over the globe. Just rubs me the wrong way, that's all.
Agree. Sometime bands need to replace members for death, drugs or some other reason. But anyone with any common sense would know QAL are not a tribute band or cover band. It was meant as an insult and Brian rightfully took it that way. Yes there were compliments but the dismissal of the work, care and talent of those men was also obvious. It was also insulting to the fans to question why they would spend two hours listening to them. Some can't just let Brian, Roger and Adam enjoy themselves and spread the joy around to fans who have paid good money to see them perform. They see the arenas are full but some don't care. We are to believe that they are the only smart ones in the room.

lurleene, totally agree. It's the words "tribute band" and "cover band," that set Brian off. Otherwise, I think he would have let it go. The reviewer actually seemed to like the show quite a bit. He just keeps allowing the ghost of Freddie to prevent him from moving on.
Bill Wyman, the original bass player of the Rolling Stones, chose to leave the band years ago. He was replaced by Ron Wood. Have the Stones been a "cover band" all these years because they replaced an original member? Lots of bands do, and they don't even change the name of the band.
I hope all this becomes old news really quick. Phoenix is next, and then that special Microsoft corporate gig on Wednesday. That should be interesting. I'm sure it won't be a full-length show. That audience will have lots of got-bucks people in it, I'll bet.
Lol it’s almost like those same critics who hounded Freddie, particularly his private life for years. Suddenly are his white knight. Even Freddie said he expected to be replaced at some point. And he had no problem with it. I suspect his response to Adam would be a wry smile and “You bastard, how do you do that?” People who knew Freddie. Knew he was a big fan of true talent. He loved opera music. He also said so what you want with my music, never make me boring. Somehow I get the sense touring with a Freddie impersonator or MM . Would not be what Freddie wanted. With Adam it’s contiuning to challenge people intellectually and artistically. It’s dangerous, current, and alive.
I also feel these critics think Oh Freddie’s dead now. He was Queen. And they should of just closed shop. So calling them a tribute band is akin to that line of thinking. Not only is that an insult to The other Members. It’s patently and historically inaccurate. Long after Freddie’s death Queen was still alive. They released new music. They had the musical in London that went on for years. They toured with Paul Rodgers. And of course Adam. Saying oh the movie made QAL successful speaks to this critics ignorance. Their IHR festival performance in 2013 of anything made them.
I am a huge Adam fan who bought VIP tickets to too many QAL shows, and now I am having some financial hardships and need to sell some of my tickets. They are all FRONT ROW or directly next to the thrust (I had multiple people helping me get the best tickets when they went on sale), and I would like to sell them to other big fans at my original cost. Here are the tickets:
Phoenix, 7/16: 2 tickets for floor section A, row 1, seats 1 and 2 (front row seats directly next to the right side of the thrust); $782 per ticket
Chicago, 8/9: 2 tickets for floor section 1, row 3, seats 1 and 2 (second or third row with seat 1 directly next to the left of the thrust; I think they are actual second row, but ticketmaster won’t show me the detailed seating chart anymore); $812 per ticket
Tampa, 8/18: 3 tickets for floor section 3, row 2, seats 1-3 (actual front row seats directly next to the left side of the thrust); $776 per ticket
Please message me if you are interested, and I will send you my phone number so we can discuss it further.

atomom: Adam's artistry is in full display: the surprise of hiccuppy gasps right before "new eyes", the sensuous tongue, one-two punch of "damn" smile, head thrown back, body drops to heavy guitar beats, a lusciously looking Adam--all make NE a visual/aural feast.
