... This is not explicitly a gay anthem; ... This looks quite explicit to me: but then she also sings about race in the very next part Frankly the lyrics are quite long, so the explicit gay reference is easy to miss... The very first lines are: It doesn't matter if you love him; or capital H.I.M. AND Don't be a Drag, just be a Queen really is about being gay and anything else is stretching things, in my opinion. The best ANTHEMs are explicit and I hope that is what this is. It will have to be if it is to take on a full life. [Agreed about the aint....that word is about as inauthentic a word as exists in a piece of art where each nuance is purposeful....wtf...that is like saying...hey...don't confuse me with an intelligent articulate person...sheesh]

kryptoman68 I stand corrected. I confess to the intellectual laziness of not checking all the lyrics and only reading the ones posted by mszue . My career as a journalist is over before it began ... but wait, there is always Fox News. ETA: mszue , Gaga is cis-female, so I took the first him as heterosexual and I took the capitalized HIM as a religious reference. I have proven many times that I can be totally wrong, does H.I.M. refer to something else? I think Her Infinite Majesty sounds good. And in small letters here re: aint, he couldn't even properly contract it with an apostrophe *rolls eyes*. My inner third grade teacher is a bitch.

Well, maybe he can ride on the coat tails of Taylor's YNTCD and it will be successful. We'll see if the Gay community rallys behind it as well as mainstream listeners. From all indications this is the one song/lead single that he was hoping would take off. I just don't want it referred to or labeled "Gay Anthem" to hinder it's more widespread appeal. Just my thoughts. Taylor's song is successful because she gets massive radio play. The same with Mackemore's "Same Love" and Gaga's "Born This Way". Haven't seen an actual gay man get that kind of reception and recognition for a "Gay Anthem." Not sure Adam will get much or any radio play for anything. It wouldn't be easy with a major label putting a little effort behind him. But without one, what are the chances? It has been so long since he has had a successful single that hopes have faded (for me). I find it hard to believe that a 4th single from Adam will suddenly be the one. Tho I would love to be wrong and see this song takeoff. And his fans will label it a "Gay Anthem" hindering it's more widespread appeal or not. But I suspect that is the label he wants. I'll just buy and stream and hope it does what the wants it to do. My expectations are not going to get crazy this time, lol. I have SUPER low expectations. Iggy Azalea's two singles on Empire did not do well and Iggy has sold far more records (48 million) than Adam prior to Empire.

Oh and just to get this off my chest, none of the explicits and shits bother me in the slightest, but "aint"!!! Really Adam, "aint"?!? I feel like a third grade grammar teacher. Perhaps it will feel sassy in context. Ain't is used colloquially in many areas and turns up in music quite frequently. Music runs with different language rules a lot of the time... We have to just get used to it.

nonotmeTrue, true. I am hoping that in the rhythm of the song it sounds natural. I love 'Ain't No Sunshine' 💕

This Billboard article about singer-songwriter Wrabel overlaps some discussion points that come up on Atop. He's gay, was on a major label, now is indie, co-wrote with Adam. Check it out.

I think he referred to Superpower being an Anthem in some of the interviews he did in June already. Who knows, maybe the time is right for a Gay Man to sing about this subject. Born this way is more than just a gay anthem though as it's also an empowering song for everybody to be just the way they are. Perhaps Adam's song can be interpreted wider as well. To be a hit I think the sound of the song is more important than the lyrics as those are often the 2nd thing people look after. Adam hinted at some snippets so let's wait and see / hear!
