Adam Lambert Is the Superhero We All Need in Colorful Clip (Watch)
By Michele Amabile Angermiller
Adam Lambert is embracing his freedom in the new track “Superpower,” from the album “Velvet: Side A,” released today.
Produced by Tommy English (BØRNS), the “American Idol” season 8 runner-up gets colorfully bold in the song, with lyrics like: “Try to put me in a box / Make me something I’m not / Don’t give a f–k ’cause I’m gonna take back my superpower.” The track was written by Ilsey, Lambert and English and also features vocals from Alisan Porter, winner of season 10 of NBC’s “The Voice.”
Speaking to U.K. radio program Capital Breakfast, Lambert told host Roman Kemp that he was inspired to write the song because, “There’s a lot of crazy stuff going on in the world right now. I feel like there’s a lot of groups of people that get discriminated against or get ostracized.”
The song’s official video finds Lambert decked in an array of outfits ranging from eye-popping green (with eyeshadow to match) to vibrant blues and Elton John inspired shades. As he struts to the beat in the Millicent Hailes-directed clip, Lambert is surrounded by equally glammed up dancers and he takes on the personae of a velvet clad, funky superhero. Showcasing his trademark falsetto, he sings, “Do You Wanna Be Free?”
Lambert previously announced that the first half of “Velvet” would be released on Sept. 7. He premiered a track, “New Eyes,” earlier this year on “American Idol,” as well as two other songs: “Comin’ In Hot” and “Feel Something,” released after Lambert and Queen opened the 2019 Academy Awards.
He is next set to appear at the 2019 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park on Sept. 28. In addition, Lambert will perform at a tribute to the late Avicii in Stockholm, Sweden on Dec. 8.

Watch Adam Lambert Strut His Stuff in Glam-Filled ‘Superpower’ Video
Velvet: Side A is out September 27thBy Claire Shaffer
Adam Lambert has returned with another disco-infused track “Superpower,” accompanied by an equally glammed-out video. The song features on Velvet: Side A, the first half of Lambert’s fourth album, out September 27th.
The Millicent Hailes-directed video sees Lambert and his dancer friends strutting their stuff, driving vintage cars and snatching their own wigs. Lambert is a velvet-wearing superhero, handing out ice cream and generally doing all sorts of heroic acts – with a lot of funk and flair thrown in, of course.
Lambert previously released the singles “New Eyes” and “Comin in Hot,” as well as the Velvet track “Feel Something” following his performance with Queen at the 2019 Oscars ceremony. Lambert and Queen are currently on a joint world tour, with North American stadium shows planned for 2020; they will headline the 2019 Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park on September 28th. Lambert is also set to perform at an Avicii tribute concert on December 5th in Stockholm, Sweden.

Being Queer Is Adam Lambert’s ‘Superpower’ in New Music Video
I smell a Beyoncé mashup.
By Rose DommuSeptember 04 2019 12:08 PM EDT
Adam Lambert dropped the music video for his new single “Superpower” on Wednesday, a 70s funk-inspired slow burner in which the former American Idol contestant and current Queen frontman struts through the streets of New York with a posse of pals decked out in rainbow-hued finery. Lambert, clad in a well-cut emerald green suit and gigantic gold chain, plucks a shaggy wig off his head, showing off a pompadour that would make Danny Zuko jealous.
The lyrics center queer self-empowerment. “All of the witches and the demons better get out my way,” Lambert warns, possibly forgetting that witches and demons are canonically queer. While he’s been put “in a box” and made into “something I’m not,” Lambert wails that he doesn’t “give a fuck 'cause [he’s] gonna take back” his superpower.
In an interview with the radio network Capital FM, Lambert explained that the song was inspired by all the “crazy stuff going on in the world,” observing that “there's a lot of groups of people that get discriminated against or get ostracised.” Lambert "wanted to make a song to make people in that situation feel like they didn't have to take it,” calling the final track is a “proud rebellion.”
Earlier this year, the artist told Variety that while music has become a “totally different landscape” for queer artists, he “can’t make a blanket statement that [discrimination] doesn’t happen anymore.” He said, “There are always going to be shades of homophobia — sometimes internalized homophobia that I’ve encountered from other gay people in the industry. They might feel that ‘too gay.’”
Lambert went on to say that the increase in queer visibility has chaged the industry landscape since his own come up.
“When I first came on the scene almost everybody that I encountered in the music business was very supportive of me personally, but they were all a bit nervous about how it could work publicly,” he added. “Now it’s been proven that there is a market and an audience. It’s allowing a lot more diversity to be pushed through.”

Adam Lambert Serves Glittery Lewks in Vibrant 'Superpower' Video: Watch
9/4/2019 by Glenn Rowley
Adam Lambert unveiled the '70s-inspired visual for his latest single “Superpower” on Wednesday (Sept. 4).
The colorful video finds the singer strutting through the streets of Brooklyn while rocking a kaleidoscopic array of power suits, glam makeup and bold accessories with an entourage of dancers in tow.
“Try to put me in a box/ Make me somethin’ I’m not/ Don’t give a fuck ‘cause I’m gonna take back/ My superpower,” Adam wails on the track’s funky pre-chorus in a glittery green suit and massively oversized gold chain.
“Superpower” will serve as the lead single of the star’s upcoming EP, Velvet: Side A -- his first solo release since wrapping up the North American leg of the Rhapsody Tour with Queen (as Queen + Adam Lambert). Velvet: Side A is slated for release on Sept. 27 via More is More/Empire.
