I'll beg to differ on the how often or for what. They do it less than they used to but often now it is for night breathing issues. Always breathing thru the mouth can lead to some facial structure issues later on. My DS had his out at 5 years. He went to the store afterwards with us to get a movie and would have happily returned to dothe surgery all over again the next day. Pays to both do it young and have a great surgery team and pre-op nurses. Now what Adam had done later in life was a septoplasty where they straightened his septum and probably scraped his turbines a bit too. I did this in May of this year and the end of my nose is still tender and not the same even if I do breathe easier. The swelling was not fun since they had to break a cheekbone to make everything even. I guess that probably wouldn't effect the voice as much as tonsils but could factor into any slight naselness anyone hears. All I can say is DON'T have your tonsils taken out as an adult!! (unless it is a medical emergency) I had mine taken out at 17, and it spent a week in HELL after that. My throat hurt badly for at least a week after that. My BFF had hers out a week later- same hellish experience. Childbirth was nothing compared to that experience. OMG...me too!! Had mine taken out when I was 18. A week after the operation, they (or rather the area where they were removed) started to bleed and that blood coagulated in HUGE clumps way down in my throat.... I almost freakin' choked to death on the way to the emergency room!! Never been so scared in my life - thought I was gonna die! Not hyperbole people....I'd NEVER recommend removing tonsils or adenoids as an adult.

One ended up getting an infection at the very end of her recovery and it was another two weeks of pure hell. Kids ... not a big deal. Adults ... Yeowtch!!

Just popping in quickly, but wanted to say I loved this post, juniemoon!!! But I'm really curious about what you'd do differently next time around... Any thoughts on this??? (please?) Seoulmate, thanks for this. Also enjoyed reading midwifespal's thoughts. What I've realized (and this is just me, personally -- not in any way a judgement of what's fun or right for others -- not even beating myself up about following Adam's every doing so closely all this year) is that stanning wears me out, and is not that fun for me. If we continue the sex analogy ... well, let's not ... but you get the idea. Since Grammy week, there have been three new things that I really loved and wouldn't have wanted to miss: Maxidrom, St. Agathe (Outlaws of Love), and Behind the Music. I could catch up on them in three hours. I believe that next time, I will TRY to let my Adam interest go dormant between albums. I won't make a fetish of it, but I'll make it a point to step away from the daily search for that little hit of excitement. Maybe check in once a week and see what's going on, right-click a few pictures. Go discover new music. Come back when there's a release date, catch up with everybody, and jump back in with both feet. I remember that worked really well back in the day before the Internet. I loved Springsteen, and he took a loooong time between albums. It just wasn't possible back then to have daily hits of an artist, so you just had to move on. And then it was SO EXCITING when there was something new finally! And he had a new look! And maybe a new band ... and you didn't know what happened so instead of you were :D. And you could even mark different eras of your life by the various albums. We'll see if I can stick to it when the time comes. It's too late not to have gone nuts for this go-round. I admit I'm skimming tonight, but in relation to your post - WHY? This is so much fun. Seriously, I'm just curious. Is it just to show you CAN?

(ETA: and another one )
Cassie...or some other type expert :-) Adam's speaking voice often has a slightly 'nasel' sound to me...especially [but not exclusively] in the morning...and we have discussed this. My question is...how would a tonsilectomy/adnoidectomy affect Adam's singing voice? I remember when my youngest daughter had her tonsils and adnoids out, her voice sounded completely different and it was a shock [she was only 4 at the time..but she had extremely large t's and a's and surprisingly, the dr suggested removal.
I heard traces of Adam's "morning voice" earlier, but it was so pronounced the first time he was on Oprah, when it was skyped or whatever. He came in, sat on the sofa to talk to her, and sounded like he just rolled out of bed. I've heard it so many times since and I always smile because it seems to always be at times that would be "early" for him. Definitely no where near an expert, just an observation and I'm way back on page 12, so discussion is prob moot by now, as usual.
