OMG That Paul Rodgers rendition. LOL. Now he has a great voice, I remember listening to Bad Company songs bc of my dad...but his voice/vibe is alllll inda of wrong for this song. He is too lowkey and bluesy....not as bombastic which is needed. And his phrasing is weird to me.
He is a good singer but this just goes to show how important it is to find a singer whose voice fits the material....not as easy task. After sunday I wouldn't be surprised to see Queen bring Adam out again for a special event or two. You could see the pure joy on Brian's face as he was performing...as if he was thinking "FINALLY!!!"

I'm sorry but I will have to say it as well. Paul Rodgers didnt do it for me at all. He looked old and sloppy and smarmy. And although he has a decent voice and pretty good interpretation there was no pizazz. Adam's voice has emotion, power and great beauty.
Listening to Adam sing that song is like sitting in an opera house and soaking in the sublime. Listening to PR is like sitting in a pizza joint and downing a beer.

Just watched the PR version and you're totally right. The verses were kind of ok but the chorus not so much, the vibe is just wrong. It needs someone belting it out like Adam did yesterday. With emotion and power, that it gave people chills. The PR version is just well sung and that's it. |
