Adam Lambert joined the legendary Queen on stage Sunday night for a breathtaking finale of Queen classics at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast.

Surprise guest Adam provided his towering and powerful lyrics for hits The Show Must Go On, We Will Rock You, and We Are The Champions, walking out to greet the roaring crowd as the band rocked out on stage.

Queen Performs with Adam Lambert at MTV Europe Music Awards

Fans were treated to one such combo at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday, where Queen were honored with the Global Icon Award, as reported by our friends at UltimateClassicRock.com.

Guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor used the occasion to reunite with ‘American Idol’ alum Adam Lambert, who performed with them on that show in 2009; this time around, the trio delivered live renditions of ‘The Show Must Go On,’ ‘We Will Rock You,’ and ‘We Are the Champions.’

After the ceremony, May, Taylor, and Lambert were interviewed by the BBC. You can watch the interview below:

When asked why he thought Queen‘s music had endured and remains popular still today, May offered this thoughtful response: “That’s always a hard question to answer, but we speak how we feel, and we speak, in a way, for common people. We always have — we’ve always been kind of a people’s band, and I think that endures. We aren’t locked into any time frame. We just kind of speak the way people feel — their dreams, their hopes, their aspirations. The songs are honest. If there is an answer, I think that’s it.”

Lambert, whose vocal style is frequently compared to deceased Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, paid tribute to the iconic singer’s talent, saying, “It was such an honor to be asked to sing with Queen… the music they created together broke the mold for what rock music was. Freddie’s spirit lives on.”

Adam single delayed

Adam Lambert was trigger-happy when it came to announcing the release date for his first single, he confessed to Twitter. “I want to apologize for claiming November as the release month. I spoke too soon.” Glambert’s new album has a tentative release date of February 2012, and the Idol Season 8 contestant had previously announced a November release date for his first single. That won’t be happening “due to some unforeseen logistics, legal annoyances and creative details,” Adam tweeted. When it comes to “legal annoyances,” could Adam be referring to the lawsuit recently filed against him? Likely.

The Lawsuit

I started to compile yet another list of facts and analysis of the Welsford claim. But realized that very few things matter in this case.

The dispute is limited to Colwel Platinum (Malcolm Welsford)’s rights related to “Beg for Mercy”.

1. Does Colwel Platinum have the right to release the recordings known as “Beg for Mercy” album?

2. If they have the right to release these recordings, are there any restrictions?

3. Does Whilshire Publishing own 50% of Adam’s songwriting rights and associated royalties?

Everything else is a distraction.

Numerous lawyers have reviewed the complaint and posted about it. All the reports that I have read concluded that this suit has no bearing on any of Adam’s RCA recordings, and there is not legal reason not to release his new music.

So why did Sony/RCA/Adam push the single release back to early 2012?

Hopefully Adam will eventually fill in the blanks but it looks more like a promotion and marketing decision than anything else.

I wanted to add one great comment from Twotrue posted in the 11.9.11 News Thread, “…. this lawsuit is probably not a big deal. We live in a litigious society and the more successful you are, the more likely you are a deep pocket. Also, this is not the first, nor the last time a business relationship (even between friends) has gone south and ended up in Court. And there is definitely an upside. It is now more obvious that Adam doesn't support this album and that, even if they use his name and his image, this is not his new music.”
