mwp, I was thinking about you when I read this article and I think the Slate guy likes Rihanna. He certainly gave her props for being able to identify songs which will top the charts and if you think about it, her androgyny fits into the argument that he was making, in that you can't tell exactly who she is ... she exudes but she doesn't specify.
He also like Rude Boy for just the reasons you stated, "Two of my favorite Rihanna songs are the horny, aggressive “Rude Boy,” from 2009 and the horny, melancholic “What’s My Name,” from 2010, both of which nod towards vaguely Caribbean rhythms and feature spry, playful vocals." And he liked my favorite song of hers, Only Girl in the World.
So all in all, I thought it was an interesting and positive piece, but she does seem a product. She is sort of the tabula rasa of pop music.

With the tweets you've seen, is there any description of his costume? Is it teasing or torture?!? At Adam's request? Oh well, I'll just keeping watching the Queen medley - just one more time... just one more time... just one more time...

SHE IS ONLY 23?!?!?! Jeebus. Feels like she should be much older, like she has been around forever. And no Mr. Manager of Rihanna, the people putting out music every 2 or 3 yrs are not disposable, it's the music that artists who release every 6 months who are disposable. Because her music is written by a committee and the artist is just a singer for hire with absolutely no artistic viewpoint who will be tossed aside as soon as the candles are lit on her 35th birthday and a whole other crop of younger, hotter gals are there to take the artists place with ever more disposable music. Of course there is a chance she could pull a Madonna and keep on working, but with this kind of a schedule the chance for burn out is high. The chance for people just being sick of her and moving on is even higher. Don't get me wrong--even tho I am sick of Rihanna like WOAH, her music is generally catchy as fuck and I'll buy her music if I like it, but she is not an "artist" ....she is a product. Good for her that she is so successful, but artists who actually take time to craft and create their own music are not disposable. It's sad that we live in a kind of society that feels this way. I know I don't....and I sure hope that the generation coming up behind me doesn't feel the same. It's the success of people like Adele which give hope to everyone who likes QUALITY pop music. It will just be interesting to see who of the pop star divas of today will still be around in 10-15 years. Right now I can see Gaga sticking around, perhaps Adele if her voice holds out....and Beyonce. Anyone else I'd be surprised. May I add a HELL YA!!!!!!!!!!!!! ETA: Adam is a guy. The Over 30 is too old rule does not apply to male performers! Sad, but true!

No descriptions at all in the very few I have seen, just compliments. I can't even tell if he was a cowboy or indian. This might be taking that secrecy thing a little too far.

Sad, but true! well, Streisand, even Mariah, etc...managed to have longevity, not sure if it's the old gender thing (because look at the boy bands and how few of those have survived) IMO it's more a function of age and selling themselves as sex objects, I mean gaga's and Rhianna's outfits are definitely geared for under 25

Do anyone know what's the best visual and sound recording video download of the EMA's whole melody or parts of the whole melody? Trying to download it to show someone but don't know where to find the recordings.
Thanks in advance.
Marie

Good night, I am off to bed. I hope by tomorrow Adam will have tweeted a picture of his party costume. My guess, a vampire cowboy dressed all in black. ETA - That's funny evergreen because I thought of that too. hmmm ... no, never going to happen.
