They've been friends forever. Run in the same tribe in LA. Maybe from Zodiac days? Thanks, bamafan! Enjoyed your recap. I see the Parlotones in 2 1/2 weeks!

Thanks Bama for the recap!! I really enjoyed that. Amazing how things can change region to region. I'm sure Vintage Trouble does decent in L.A. and I know Parlatones sell out arenas in South Africa, but then they go elsewhere and they're playing tiny clubs again. What a huge shift.
I have to say :( :( to hubby and son not caring for Adam, despite trying. I hear that very rarely. His music is so diverse, I never really get how people: "Don't like his music," since it really isn't any one style.
Looking forward to seeing The Parlatones in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!! I don't think VT is opening for them in L.A. though.
Glad you had a great time!!!

Bama, thanks so much for the recap! I'll be seeing The Parlotones in SF and Sac in a couple of weeks, and I'm really looking forward to it. I've turned into a huge stan, but it's a lot different from Adam stanning, lol.
Like Susie says above, they play in arenas in South Africa, but they're playing tiny venues here and trying to raise awareness. This is a group that would probably benefit from opening for a major act. I don't see how playing to handfuls of people in the U.S. as you describe is going to do much for them, but I'm really grateful to get a chance to see them live.
From what I've read, the music biz is tough in S.Africa-- it's just not a big enough population to allow artists to support themselves by their music alone. Kahn said it's only in the last couple of years that they've been able to quit their day jobs and do music exclusively. But they are smart business-people and have come up with some clever marketing. For example, they partner with a winemaker to put out wines with the names of some of their songs, such as Giant Mistake. LOL!
Thanks again!!!

... they play in arenas in South Africa, but they're playing tiny venues here... They don't always play in arenas in SA, sometimes they prefer smaller venues here as well. I think the population is big enough, it's the diversity of the population that's the reason. ...I find their So. African accents just adorable...

Bamafanthank you for your lovely recap. Loved to read it. I have listened The Parlotones' music a lot and I like it. I was checking their European tour, but the closest to me was London. And it's just not possible for me to fly there now. But sometimes maybe. Oh, Roots I just now realised what SA in your location is. Cool!

Just find out we have this music thread recently, love it.
I listened to this song when I was a little girl, didn't know who is the singer. But I always remember the melody and some lyric all these years . I think this is the original singer.

I don't know if anyone here is a country music fan, but I had to post a link to MJ's with a video of the tribute to Glenn Campbell on the CMA's last night. Love the man. Made me tear up. And Jimmy Webb is a genius when it comes to songwriting. www.mjsbigblog.com/45th-annual-cma-awards-videos.htm

I've just been introduced to this group/couple who were discovered on Youtube and have been on Ellen. I'm not a fan of rap but Amy's diction is incredible and Karmin improves every song they cover. Okay maybe not Adele but this girl can really sing;
Here they are on Chris Brown's 'Look at me now'
and 1000times better than Nicki Minaj;

Have you heard anything from this band, Nightwish? My son introduced me to this music and it is pretty wild! Not for everyone but I love them. New album coming soon and a movie based off this new album. This band is from Finland :D
