mika and didilynn thanks for the insight into Maroon 5 and Bruno. Interesting case studies that might apply a bit to possible directions for Adam, as well as great musicians in their own right. Thanks!

Didilynn - Thanks for posting that review as I had been curious about the Bruno Mars performance. I'd debated buying a ticket to hear Janelle Monae and am glad I didn't spend the money.
I've heard Bruno on TV and there's no doubt he can sing, however I just can't take his material. It reminds me of the 'Barry Manilow' school of writing - all sickly sweet, with lots of well-worn cliche's about love and dying for your partner paired with mundane tunes. I change the channel when his songs come on the radio and can't even fathom spending a dime for The Lazy song, but clearly I'm in a minority. He gets played all the time here.
Does his success mean Adam has more of a chance. I guess we'll see when the next album drops. There are some good singers who have hit songs and i knew as soon as I heard Adele and Cee lo's tunes that they would be hits because they're so catchy. But then total auto-tuned, formulaic dogs with no melody - like ET or Get on the Floor become monster hits and I have no clue why. So basically, I don't really get the market and I'm not counting on Adam getting tons of radio support unless either his fans get behind him in a major way or he has a song that's as irresistable as Rolling in the Deep or Forget You.

mika... thanks for all the info on M5. I knew very little about the band, so it was nice to get some background. Definitely an "outlier" group from your description, and I can't believe how long it took for their album to creep up the charts... OMG, 26 months! That's crazy!!
And didilynn.. really enjoyed your write up of Bruno and Janelle, too. Bruno's voice doesn't do a lot for me on the radio, but it sounds like he really shines in concert and does some really eclectic stuff!!

OMG, just found this at MJ's. Haley Reinhart singing God Bless the Child with Irvin Mayfield and his band at Irvin's Jazz Playhouse in NO.
Pretty fucking amazing IMO.

Yay! Someone watched. She is really amazing. Did you see where the HeWhoCannot amedet player is watching her with amazement and a smile, then he just goes over to sit down and watch/listen as if to say "I'm not needed here, you've got this". That's a pretty great honor.
And hoopla1, with the tweeting. I'd love to hear/see Adam's reaction to this performance. I know I would love to see Adam duet with a lot of people, but could you imagine the two of them at an impromptu thing like this................................
Gotta say it again "he/she shoulda won".
