Still at page 4, but I have to say, I feel I should be paying Adam for finding music and artists for me and saving me time, because I completely agree with his opinions, keeping in mind that
1. Adam is at this level
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UmblOkTGUQ the common not trained person who loves music but does not have a good ear (to put it politely), is at this level
www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8vCnaknC6gand the rest are somewhere in between.
I am sure Adam knows exactly where he stands vocally and where every other singer does stand too.
And I am sure that if B.Mars called him and said "Hey Adam. Listen to this. What's your advice?" he would have many things to praise and to correct like he does to himself.
2. I have to read between the lines when reading his tweets (what he says, how he says it, what he doesn't say), but also pay attention to the words he is using. He finds the perfect word, for me, to discribe every song.
3.Remember my "rules". It is not always just the result, the performance but also the level of difficulty, the age, the potential.
Sometimes it is the whole not the detail, sometimes it is the opposite.
The ideal is only in our minds and especially in the singer's mind.
Sometimes you hear an artist with 100 singing "problems" but there are only 0.2 sec in the performance that make you think wow!! there is something there.
By the way, another "rule" for me:
If I hear a great performance or at least those 0.2 sec, the artist is capable. Period. Does he/she has the rest, can he/she go from the 0.2 sec to the whole song, do it consistently, be a great artist? That's another thing.
If I hear a bad peformance, is the artist not capable? Not always. Could be a technical problem, immaturity, a bad day, nerves, whatever. I have to search for more performances IF I see the potential.
Anyway, because I start confusing even myself here, the "rule" is that there isn't always a "rule".
Sometimes it is just the vocals, sometimes the vocals at a certain part of the song, sometimes the production, sometimes the music, sometimes the realness or the freshness or the emotion or the lyrics or the beat or the video or the costumes or...
I am sure Adam sees "something" every time or he would't tweet.
And he sees the best everyone has and he is humble and GREAT to tweet it. He is a real MUSICIAN.
Bruno Mars is a very good singer. Pharrell's "hypnotise u" is sexy and shows that he is seriously talented. Skylar Grey's production of Dance without you is fresh and so is Brad Walsh WWFM remix. Christina Aguilera is a very good singer. Sia's album was very good and "be good to me" was the best song (for me). Miike Snow "plastic jungle" is fantastic IMO and the best of every song of them I heard. Adele is a very good singer and so is Jessie J and so is Nikka Costa. Kesha is fun. Rihanna gives you beauty. Gaga has ballz. Cher Lloyd (he followed her, has not tweeted). You tube her X factor audition. Problems? Yes. Future? I have no idea. But the 0.2 "wow!! there is something there" sec? They are there.
