Comparisons to Adam Lambert's voice: Don't even go there! I think that different people actually hear sound, music and voices differently. Perhaps it is akin to how people taste things differently. Some of it is due to experience with the foods, and foods one grows up with, some is due to texture rather than taste at all, and some is due to difference in chemical receptors in the tongue and the nose. In the same way what we appreciate in music is influenced by what we heard growing up, what we were trained with, what the singer looks/acts like, and what our ears hear and our bodies feel when we experience the sound vibrations. Having said that, Adam's voice is qualitatively different from other singers. Much of it is technique, much of it is interpretation, and much of it is anatomy and physiology. Depending on how one experiences that voice, one may love it or be turned off by it. But, make no mistake. There is NO ONE in music that I have heard, across genres, who currently sounds like Adam. NO ONE. My music theory, my musical experience, and my visceral reaction to the voice make it my favorite to listen to. I imagine most folks on this forum react the same. But, like it or hate it, it is one of a kind. Cassie, before I move on to RL (my treadmill is calling me) wanted to thank you for this post. I've always wondered why I thought Adam had the most fantastic voice and I loved, loved his passionate wails, and others just said he "screamed". I'd never thought that people hear music differently - that's the only explanation that makes sense to me, so thank you for sharing that! I love all of your posts, BTW!

Q3: Do I remember you mentioning a possibility that the CD/DVD could potentially be counted by Soundscan towards FYE sales? Is there some minimum number of original album tracks that must be on it to qualify, or are there some other specific requirements that must be met? Or does it even matter one way or the other? It will be counted as a separate release. I posted that before they released the track list for the CD -- since it is substantially different than FYE CD 11.23.09 version, it will be tracked as a separate album. The original RCA product summary reads like it was the Album CD + a Live DVD -- rather than a Live CD + a Live DVD. BUT I think it has a change of being Certified Gold. Since it has not been released theatrically, I believe that the DVD should qualify as a Music Video Longform for the RIAA. Quantity needed for Gold: 50,000 units. Certainly will not happen overnight but the pre-sale on Amazon has been very steady, and every time there is a promotional reminder of the release, it shifts up a notch. Also, I think it has a shot of being in the Billboard 200 week 1 because AO.com should also be doing OK on sales. We'll see. The BB200 is filled with old releases, and the sales needed to make the 200 are not huge. ETA: Glam Nation Live (CD/DVD) will need to sell > 5,000 units or so in the first week + shipped presale orders to make the BB200 in March. Looks possible to me if there is a some promo event to make people aware of it release week.

I think people also see colors differently, so why not hear differently as well. I used to work with graphic designers a lot and was often stunned at the names they would call some colors. For example, something that was clearly in the pink family to me, a designer would call orange. I couldn't see orange to save my life.

Q3 comment: This discussion was moved here: adamtopia.com/index.cgi?board=inspired&action=display&thread=58
I am copying this comment to that thread, but leaving this comment here. If you want to comment on this please do it in the Salon. Thanks, Q3
I gather the author of this piece reposted it and that is way it is showing up today. Published on 11.23.09. A couple interesting comments about it -- and it inspired a new thread about FYE reviews. The first line in the Bully Bloggers bullybloggers.wordpress.com/2009/11/23/adam%E2%80%99s-return article is “ Adam Lambert talks a hot fuck.” Heck, we all know that since many of us are as much in love with his interviews as with his music. Of course in this case the author is referring to FYE the single but in thinking forward to Adam’s goals for album two I’m placing bets on hot fuck talking to continue. By that I mean Adam’s complete lack of self consciousness when discussing or singing (or dancing) about anything sexual. Whether this is a conscious decision or a more innate naivety, it’s simply for him, nothing to be embarrassed about. The author goes on to make a prediction. “The song might be a metaphor for the future role of the out gay entertainer in American culture. This song and its promise “I’m about to make it rough for you” helps drive a nail in the coffin of the sexless, minstrelized images of 1990s “gay visibility.” The insatiable, omnisexual persona Lambert inhabits onstage — from American Idol to the American Music Awards — is a bitch slap at the era of “limp wrist and a shopping list,…” . While this generalization about future “out” entertainers might come true I think that for either gay or straight entertainers it’s going to be the individual entertainer that determines how much that is accepted by the public. For example we’ve talked about Constantine a few times in the last several days. I think the description of “smarmy” has come up. Somebody said upstream that he doesn’t come across that way in his character in “Rock of Ages” but I’m not sure any of us feel that his non-character real self matches up to what he can pretend to be. Perhaps that’s why Adam is drawn to the role of villain when he describes roles he’d like to play and possibly why he had fun in the FYE video filming. Something that is so alien to his real self. I was going to do an analogy here of a gay Constantine doing the FYE video in 2006 BA (before Adam) and how he would be received but I'm afraid. Very afraid.

*TOTAL SCROLL ALERT!* Sorry for the interruption, but I just woke up from a comfort dream/visit from AFL and if I can't share it here, where the hell else can I? It's G-rated, don't worry. Dream: I'm in bed, Adam comes in dressed in tshirt jeans boots mussy hair no makeup softly says "Hey!" (He's beautiful and I want to reach out and touch his hair, straighten it up, but think no, be cool, leave him alone.) He sits on a floor pillow at foot of the bed then lies on floor curls up in fetal position. I say are you getting enough rest, he says yeah, pretty much. His legs look spindly, I'm surprised by how thin he is. I say don’t stay on the floor, come sit on the bed by my feet (it's the only place to sit on bed, as it's piled with old clothes I'm sorting through.) I say where ya been, he says New York. What's the weather like there? Too cold! Yeah, I can't believe you made it up my hill. I said sorry for the mess in here, I'm getting rid of things--you should go through this stuff to see if there's anything you want or could use—vintage stuff (teehee!) He digs through piles of old clothes, grabs a couple of things like an old threadbare kimono (that I actually got rid of years ago, god, how I miss that kimono) and my old good luck peacock feather, which was NOT in the throwaway pile but I think, well, it's Adam, he can have it. Then he goes over to a corner and comes back with the dashboard of a car with wires hanging out of it and says can I have this? I said sure! I didn’t even remember I had that! (I swear I have a lot of stuff, but I do not have car parts in my bedroom.) Suddenly we're sitting on a couch, and a tiny, gray-skinned, bald, naked, sexless person (like a cute alien?) brought him a big glass of chocolate milk. Neither of us said a word to this ?person. Adam then lit a cigarette and I said WHAT? You're smoking? You shouldn’t smoke! I'm trying to quit but if your having one I want one, but we really shouldn’t do this. He smiled sheepishly (he's so cute.) I say: I was writing some songs for you last night, he says I know, then he leaned back against the cushions and kind of sighs and I said do you want to take a nap? and he looks at me in the eye for the first time and says nah, I'm ok, just want to relax, and then damn my bladder! I wake up and can’t get back in the dream! I wanted to talk to him about music! That's it. I know lots of the little subconcious reasons for many of the details (but not the little alien server--WTF?), but it was probably fueled by having a horrid cold and a temp and drinking half a bottle of Nyquil so I could go to sleep. Doesn't matter. It counts as a comfort dream. I woke up happy! And I'm happy I have a place to share something so dumb, because not even my bff would ever find this even mildly interesting. You guys probably won't either, but at least you'll get why it makes me happy! ;D ...back after breakfast to read today's news! That is awesomely hilarious. And about the alien, gray and sexless. would like to know what to make of that.

One year ago today I met the most amazing group of people-- Adam lovers, all. And we saw this:
And it changed my life.
This stands out in my mind as the best version of WLL. It was the first time Adam sang it acoustically. it still makes me want to whoop with joy, gives me goosebumps, and definitely turns me on.
