Pre-Idol Recordings

So I listened to the BFM album (without buying it of course), and realized the very big flaw with the argument that Adam would have been proud of these songs at one point (and the argument that this is an interesting historical artifact of his song-writing). I don't think in many cases that these are the songs he helped write as he envisioned them at all. The circle, pop goes the camera, crawl thru fire, sound very different from the myspace and earlier posted versions and live zodiac versions, and I gotta say, it's not an improvement. Pop goes the camera in particular has just been butchered. Seeing how sucky the production is on the songs I recognize, makes me think we are getting some poor Frankenstein's monster version of the original songs Adam demoed.

So anyone wanting to get an idea of the songs as Adam first envisioned them, stick with the rough drafts we got long ago, not some other inferior producer's attempt to finish them, and in some cases, completely reshape them in a way Adam might never have wanted. This is not to downplay Adam's vocals or some of the charm of the original songs, but seriously, the production pretty much destroys the latter and the ever present annoying guitar takes away from the former IMO.

In my mind this is a clear cut example of why Adam so clearly wanted to stop this release for artistic integrity reasons. It's not just that the work was never finished and not his current sound. But that it could be finished BADLY and his name would be associated with it.
