So I listened to the BFM album (without buying it of course), and realized the very big flaw with the argument that Adam would have been proud of these songs at one point (and the argument that this is an interesting historical artifact of his song-writing). I don't think in many cases that these are the songs he helped write as he envisioned them at all. The circle, pop goes the camera, crawl thru fire, sound very different from the myspace and earlier posted versions and live zodiac versions, and I gotta say, it's not an improvement. Pop goes the camera in particular has just been butchered. Seeing how sucky the production is on the songs I recognize, makes me think we are getting some poor Frankenstein's monster version of the original songs Adam demoed.
So anyone wanting to get an idea of the songs as Adam first envisioned them, stick with the rough drafts we got long ago, not some other inferior producer's attempt to finish them, and in some cases, completely reshape them in a way Adam might never have wanted. This is not to downplay Adam's vocals or some of the charm of the original songs, but seriously, the production pretty much destroys the latter and the ever present annoying guitar takes away from the former IMO.
In my mind this is a clear cut example of why Adam so clearly wanted to stop this release for artistic integrity reasons. It's not just that the work was never finished and not his current sound. But that it could be finished BADLY and his name would be associated with it.

Rabbit, I SO totally agree with everything in your post. Not being an Adam completist, I'll find it easy to live with the earlier versions of these songs. THOSE are the songs I'll accept as part of Adam's journey...as something he tried and rejected pretty early on as conveying his vision as an artist. I like rock music--but I'm sorry, this just sounds so dated to me. Part of what I LOVE about Adam in that he FINALLY offered something I was looking for but couldn't articulate: NEW. FRESH. After the monotonous routine of listening to classic rock stations for DECADES and occasional pop (back when pop was pretty decent), I was mostly liking alternative. But Adam just filled an unarticulated void for me. And I want to continue filling that space with HIS MUSIC--songs that he has at least some control over. BFM is NOT THAT. IMO, YMMV, all the usual disclaimers!

I am so pleased to see that, despite all the promotion, despite all the deceptive marketing, BFM does not seem to be going anywhere. Earlier today, the second day of its release, Amazon ranked it at #144. Now, it is #155. The single, now in release for a couple of weeks at least, right, is dead.
I am not happy that the CD is appearing, sometimes prominently, in some retail locations. But, it seems that some Glamberts are doing their best to make sure it is not prominent for long.
All in all, this seems like a failed attempt to cash in on Adam. How much did they invest in getting this to market, getting it in stores, getting it displayed prominently? And how little has it actually sold? I am thinking that with production, marketing, and legal costs, they are gonna lose their shirts. I couldn't be happier.
