Adam Lambert, Katy Perry and Mika are just three of the many current performers who've cited Mercury as a top influence. Reigning pop diva Lady Gaga has also shown her devotion to Mercury's spectacular cross-genre style in both her live performances and her stage name, an homage to his band's 1984 hit single. (Queen's guitarist Brian May has certainly returned the love, performing alongside Gaga at the MTV Video Music Awards and calling her "an inspiration"). ....

I have the day off, and I'm up extremely early in the morning. It has nothing to do with Black Friday and everything to do with my cat! Oh well! I had a small Thanksgiving dinner yesterday for family. I was showing off my iPad, and within two seconds, my son-in-law said: "There he is." Of course it was an Adam video! I decided not to put a lot of music and videos on my iPad but had transferred one video during my tech support call when I first got my iPad. Guess who I transferred? Then I went to the TV guide on my computer to find out what channel a football game was on, and automatically slipped over to Atop and was scrolling through some pics to get to the new posts when my daughter walked in. I got: "MOM, you're so obsessed!" The good news is that it lead to a discussion about some of the collaborations on Trespassing, and when I mentioned Pharrell, my daughter got excited. She already likes Adam and has gone to two concerts with me but doesn't LOVE him...yet. One more funny family story. I'm chatty in the early morning! My daughter who had Thanksgiving dinner with me started following me on twitter fully knowing that I use it to follow Adam. A week later, my younger daughter started following me too. She knows I'm Adam obsessed but didn't realize it was my only purpose on twitter. After the Queen concert I posted something to the effect of: "shaking...crying...he KILLED it!: I got an @ reply a few hours later. She was concerned and thought I may have witnessed an accident or murder or something! ;D

THIS which is why I don't understand some of Queen's fans who would rather have no one sing than Freddie. My seven year old is a huge P!nk fan (yes, I'm careful about which songs she has access to . P!nk did a cover of one of Queen's songs during a televised concert , I converted the YouTube to MP3 for her... now she knows many of Queen's songs and loves them. Preventing the songs from being sung by other artist, IMO causes the music to die for the next generation and starts to nullify the influence.

Based on the almost unanimous positive response that Adam received on QUEEN fan sites, my impression is that most core QUEEN fans are fine with someone sing these songs if they do it well and do not "mock" Freddy or pretend to be Freddy.

I think Adam should show up to meet the in-laws looking just like this. It was my favorite look for a long, long time. t.co/XeFH3YwF
