seoulmate, your earlier rant was cracking me up, but I do have an observation. If artists released a song or 2 each month for a few months running, what would be the point of ever releasing an album? The songs would already be out there and be purchased or stolen by the time the album came out. :-/ anjalee, ViaCom is the owner of MTV. They are the ones who kept taking down the EMA/Queen You Tubes. The Claude Kelly demo was not taken down by ViaCom. It was taken down by Kobalt Publishing which controls the writer's rights of songs they have written.

Adam performing at the London Olympics Opening or Closing Ceremony is hypothetical event that is very unlikely to happen. Setting that realism aside....
The London Olympics have the cultural section divided into two parts -- the Opening and Closing Ceremonies which are designed to be an all UK show, and the Global Celebration that is the 2012 London Festival.
From the official website: "The Ceremony will mark the beginning of the XXXth Olympiad. It will provide an opportunity for the world to view the artistic expression of Danny Boyle and his team, and the culture of our Host City and the UK."
The opening ceremonies: "The Opening Ceremony is a celebration showcasing the best of the Host Country. It also features a parade of all competing nations."
Even the volunteer performers -- the obligatory mass of dancers and costumed people need to be from the UK: "Our performers will come from across the UK, from a diverse range of communities and backgrounds. We value and embrace diversity – be it age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and belief or sexual orientation. We want to make sure applicants who are deaf or disabled are provided with the necessary support during each stage of the process."
The modern Olympic tradition is the the Opening and Closing Ceremonies are focused on the cultural heritage of the host country -- with one exception -- a brief presentation from then next country to get the Summer Olympics -- Rio. If Adam was part of QUEEN, it might be different, but he is not. He would be a special guest singer (even if unnamed) and he is an American. The UK has a very proud tradition of great popular artists -- rivaled only by the US. The organizers have promised the best of British artists. JMHO -- it makes no sense to me to want Adam to be the person who breaks the modern tradition of the Olympics. It is not like they do not have singers in the UK.
There is, however, a significant festival happening at the same time that would be perfect for a QUEEN+Adam performance or an Adam Concert.
JMHO if Adam was invited to participate in the opening or closing ceremony as part of Queen, Adam and the organizers and QUEEN would be pummeled by the British press and government officials.

I noticed the response to my tweets about sharing Adam's music...
Adam lost LOTS of sales due to sharing...VooDooo was impacted, Remixes EPs were impacted, GNT LIVE was impacted...
US fans shared with international fans because there was a difference in time music was released and it decreased music sales, particularly in UK and Japan...
Lots of Adam fans said 'I will D/L this now and buy one later' and never did..
The glut of concert videos severely impacted GNT live video sales and prevented it from making gold
The sharing and D/L of a demo song from yesterday was an example of what will occur when new Adam music is leaked or posted on a radio site when newly released
Sophomore album is very important.... sophomore slump is very real...
we have to be cautious in our excitement for new Adam music, as occurred yesterday with the demo that was shared nearly instantaneously yesterday, that we are aware of how much Adam music we really do share, on an International basis...not enough sales will result in no tour....

I don't think the DL from yesterday has anything to do with DLing the album or singles illegally. I DL yesterday but already know that I will be buying the Deluxe album off of Adam's site; the deluxe album from i-Tunes, and an album off of Amazon (that's the one I don't open and save as a collector item.) My experience has been that Adam's fans love to spend money on him. My experiance, outside of the Adam fandoim, is that people who download illegally do it all the time. They think it is there and it is their right. They think the labels are responsible for finding a fix to the problem and until they do, the music or movies are there for the taking. IMO, Fans and buyers, are not the same people as illegal downloaders. Fans will buy and sharers will share. That's just the way it is.

The demo snippet posted on many sites and circulated on Twitter has nothing to do with illegal downloading -- this song is almost certainly not on the album because it is being marketed to other artists. And it was a demo NOT a finished album track.
Yes, there is some relationship between recorded music sales and tour support BUT that is not the only way artist get tour support.
The primary driver of touring is the willingness of concert promoters to fund a tour. Adam is now a bankable performer who can get tour funding as long as he proves his new music is popular.
I DO NOT SUPPORT ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING but I am firmly convinced that peer-to-peer sharing and YouTube videos drive concert attendance and in many markets are more important than radio support at driving recorded music sales, legal music streaming and concert attendance.
Whether we like it or not -- people who are under 40 now are more likely to learn about new music from a shared playlist or free mixtape released by the artist or streaming media -- and not from radio. Genie is out of the bottle.
Adam knows that people now buy albums because they want to -- not because they have to. It is the nature of the business.
Finally, in the US and several other markets recorded music sales are up, not down -- even though music piracy continues to grow at a geometric rate.

That's just the way it is. while there probably are large sets of people in thw two groups you describe, I think theres probably a group who are swingvoters (not fans who will both download and buy, and not people who never buy) - they would buy if they didnt have such easy access. I know people like that with respect to itunes singles - which are really very cheap but if a friend shares with them they dont have spend the 99c or whatever. i know people who would go see a film or hire a video but dont if they can download HD versions illegally.
