Watching that discussion, I couldn't help but wonder what 2009 Adam would think if he'd been able to see it. He has come such a long way from the young man who didn't feel qualified to engage in political discussion and just wanted to sing, to the well-respected LGBTQ+ activist and trailblazer we see today. His evolution has been inspiring to witness. I look forward to seeing what he and the Feel Something Foundation will accomplish in the years to come. Appreciated the comments..👍👍👍👍👍 😍 —-putting into words the thoughts I too have thought especially over the last few years. It has been very inspiring to see him grow and evolve, as you said. Experiences and ageing have provided growth in real world issues and it certainly shows in his words and actions. I have thought many times that the association with the Queen family...most of whom are older (or far older than Adam...haha) engaged him in topics, such as environment, politics, history, rock n roll history/people...etc etc. They were mentors for Adam. And along with this successful union, his job journey has expanded. Each new deal involves so many other work groups. Each new project or engagement has broadened his contacts and growth beyond “the singer”. Roger said...when we first met Adam he seemed more of a boy, and now he sees him as an incredibly accomplished man. 💙Love that statement

LindaG23 Looks like you still have power. Here’s an answer to your question the other day. “One of the weirdest aspects of this event is that Texas’s grid can withstand surges of power demand during the summer—even when the grid’s 26 million customers all want to run their air conditioners at once. Why can Texas’s grid hold up in the summer but not the winter? Joshua Rhodes, an energy scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, explains in a useful Forbes piece that electric cooling is an easier problem than heating, at least in Texas. In order to make a Texas dwelling comfortable and safe in 100-degree-Fahrenheit heat—say, to bring it to 70 degrees Fahrenheit—an AC unit must lower the indoor temperature by 30 degrees. But with overnight lows in Austin touching 10 degrees, heaters must now raise interior temperatures by 60 degrees to reach the same level. “Keep in mind,” he writes, “our homes are designed with insulation for a 30F differential and a preference for shedding heat, not a 60F differential with a desire to retain heat.” Thanks Happy! This is so true. My house is gas heated, but still requires electronic controls which means if the electricity goes out, so does my heat. I got really into this question, especially the false narrative about windmill/solar. I found ERCOT projections and usages for past winters and winter 20/21 and shined some math on the subject for a couple of relatives. ERCOT actually had estimated excess capacity based on previous winter performance but that assumed that pipelines and thermal plants would not freeze which of course they did at the temperatures experienced. In 2018 they had some problems which previewed this winter and winterization had been recommended over and over, but nothing was done and there was no regulation. They did lose some wind/solar, although nothing to compare with the thermal problem. Not only is Texas's grid isolated but also privately owned pipelines are not connected. It was one giant fuck-up after another. Will anything change, who knows? I kind of doubt it but I hope so.

And of course, after journalists asked a few questions you realize: what little power windmills are now contributing; they are working in colder places like Antarctica; there are better blades now to withstand the cold, but Texas hasn't updated theirs; etc. However, that narrative -- first and simplistic -- sticks with a lot of people.

happy - Yep, it sticks with people who want to believe it. But I actually think Texans are overall blaming the right people and the right systems at this moment. Governor Abbott may find a scapegoat at ERCOT to fire and come out at least even. But right now, between Ted "Fled" Cruz and AOC, people know who are physically helping them — deeds not words — and who aren't. And Joe B. did not hesitate to declare an emergency. Actually doing something is a powerful motivator and I suspect that AOC's actions will at least give some pause long enough to at least consider the Green New Deal. If it just slows down knee-jerk reactions, it will be a win.
