Tribute bands, if they are good, can be fun. You get to go rock out to songs you know and love without having the feeling that the original band is somehow stooping down to play the old stuff. For instance, I would much rather go see a KISS tribute band than pay to see Gene Simmons, ewwww.
In the case of Queen, since they are official, the remaining original band members may have a financial benefit which is a great thing when the geriatric hospital bills start coming in. (j/k) I don't know how the whole arena thing will work out though, it will depend on ticket prices whether I would go or not.
If the scheme works, all the tribute band members will probably make a lot more money and have much longer careers without the heartache of trying to break into the industry. This is not a bad thing.

Thanks to all my wonderful Atop and PF friends for the birthday wishes. Time constraints mean I can't spend hours a day on both twitter & the fan board because I need to get new PowerPoint presentations ready all the time for both my cruise ship speaking and for adult appreciation classes I'm starting at the Vancouver Symphony Music school next month. BUT once those concerts start or if there are shows in Vancouver, I can't wait to meet up with you guys again. I'm also thrilled that SusieFierce is going to come on one of my cruises next summer 'cause she's as funny in person as she is online. I'm always allowed one guest per cruise, so if I keep doing this int he years to come, there's a great possibility I can take some of my friends from Adam fandom. After all, I can't really talk about Adam the way I want with anyone else.

I think he was actually going for that. I saw an interview where he said something to the effect that he was honing his tone to match Freddie... which is why the Idol/cred comment is mystifying to me. Maybe he's actually going for that, but most Queen fans don't like it when someone trying to imitate Freddie. I definitely don't like it. He's not Freddie, so don't even try to be his copy. And if he think it's a good thing then why he was not invited by Queen to sing with them. Roger and Brian said already that no-one can replace Freddie and it shouldn't be .. IMO that's why they prefer Adam, very theatrical and has almost the same vocal range as Freddie.. Again, there is a distinct difference between a tribute band and the actual band. I think a tribute artist does their absolute best to sound as much like the person they are "playing" as they possibly can. I haven't seen a ton of tribute bands, but the commentary when you read reviews is how much they sounded/looked/embodied the spirit of the band they were honoring. I've seen one of the most famous Freddie impersonators (Gary Mullen in One Night With Queen) and he's sensational – he "becomes" Freddie in every way. He wears his costumes, has studied his mannerisms and performances down to every hip thrust and voice intonation. www.garymullenandtheworks.com/ I don't know exactly how Roger has this band conceptualized since there will be two lead singers and one of them is female, so I imagine it's not a standard imitation/tribute band. Adam, of course, was NOT a Freddie impersonator. He, like George Michael, Elton John, and Paul Rodgers, was a guest vocalist who sang the songs with his own interpretation. Big difference, IMO. ETA: Melisende!! ETA2: Oops, while I was posting, looks like Linda said pretty much the same thing and faster. ;D

Thank you Chunkey! I cannot stop laughing because of this Shame: “I really need to go step away from the computer for a while. I have Cheetos stuck in my hair, I haven’t showered in days and every time my Twitter notifier goes off my left eye uncontrollably twitches. What is my life? Is…is the sky still blue? I’m gonna go check that out.” I think I'm stress :-/
