Q3 - I am constantly amazed at how much you know about the music business. Wonder if you can claim some sort or write-off on your taxes for operating an "educational" website?? ??? I only know the parts that relate to money, strategy, marketing and promotion. I know nothing about how music is actually made or how to spot talent or all the important things about the business. You don't need to know how to spot talent. Hell we already GOT our talent! We just need to know how to make the world see that he's the BEST talent! ;D

Wonder why they chose that large pic of Adam. My least fav ever. I guess it's a combination of the shaved hair and the demented look. Not good. :-/
Compare it to the gorgeousness of the single cover which is at the top of my all-time favorite pics list.

It's been fun...before I head out, my thoughts are with Adam. As fans we have been waiting for a year for new music. But what has this process been like for Adam? What is he feeling now that he is finally releasing his first single? From his executive-produced sophomore album?? Is he realizing how much he is loved by so many? ( We crashed Twitter and probably Amazon.. ) I hope he is basking in the glow of this creation and continues to do so as the album release unfolds. I think of the countless hours he must have spent in studio, with various writers and producers. The hours he spent alone wondering what direction his music would take. Wondering, perhaps, if it would be embraced. Having doubts, dreams and a vision. So I send all positivity to this courageous man who has once again managed to unhinge us all. May he continue to do so. All happiness and success to you, Adam! Beautifully said!!!

I don't know how you can say that. You spotted Adam. Along with everyone here!! I really admire people who can spot musical talent. I can spot a great graphic designer, or a killer headline writer. ETA: That means were are all musical geniuses!

Love, love, love everything that happened today, love the snippet of the song. It's done for radio and that is what Adam needs. I was never looking for this tune to be the most innovative, experimental, risky tune on the future album. That would be nuts. Adam needs to widen his casual fan base further, for that this song needs to be mainstream.
And while it is true that Adam cannot pull all the sexy lyrics stunts the ladies pull who dominate the charts, it also is true that he does not need to. He gets attention without it, he can hold people's interest without it, he even can create controversy without it. It is what it is. I cannot wear purple, others look wonderful with it. You need to understand your situation and work with that and that is exactly what Adam has done here.
My voice happens to sit quite deep and I cannot sing a clean Eb5 or D5 for that matter, so I sang the whole snippet an octave lower immediately. But I read that Cassie said that the song has a two octave range, well that obviously will mean I won't be able to sing the whole song 1 octave lower and will need to juggle around. I think making the first single one that has range is mighty smart of Adam. I think with the casual listeners he still has a need to distance himself from the pack as a vocalist - I am talking about those folks that so far know him only from WWFM and IIHY. Neither song allowed Adam to showcase that side of him very much. Those that bought the album or went to GNT, sure, they know, but the casual radio listener will probably sing along with this like they did with WWFM and then will find their match either at the bottom range or the top with BTIKM. I agree that people will sing along anyway, no matter how wrong they might sound, but they will recognize the vocals they are hearing as something special and unusual at that point. Adam making his mark.
Another element is that the hook is easy to recognize, but actually not all that easy to sing correctly. And in the piece of the chorus there are all kinds of vocal pitfalls. First of all, repetitive singing of the same key is contrary to popular opinion not totally easy, because untrained singers tend to slip and go off pitch. There also are a few small step melodic twists that Adam performs cleanly, but others may not. Based on the snipplet I'd say, this song is not easy to sing, if you want to sing it well. But yet, the hook is memorable and you naturally yearn to hear that lead up to that high note. It's going to get him lots of attention. And it will establish him more as a vocalist.
I think Adam as the song-writer is a topic left for the album release or for the second single. Like a good book, you don't develop all of your storyline in chapter one. There is no rush there. Adam said he co-wrote almost all tracks. So that part is coming down the road. We all know already that he has that in him since a long time, there are only two reasons people are wanting to push that topic now: a) its financially beneficial and b) it matters in the AI world of WGWGs. Well part a) will sort itself out in the long run and Adam is beyond having to worry about b).
So, I think right now it is about re-establishing himself as a shoo-in TOP40 artist, expanding his popularity reach and showing off his unique vocal skills.
Based on what I have heard, single does all that and then some, imo.
Hope this will get heavy radio play from 12/20/11 onwards and makes people spend those i-tune gift cards in plenty over the coming weeks.
Very happy for Adam!
