More than a bit sick of Harry Styles getting accolades now for shit Adam did years ago... but then Adam also borrowed from those before him so I suppose stuff is all fair game. ..same with movie roles about gay folks played by straight folks... oscars ,etc.. It's really frustrating isn't it Yep. I don't think most would care but for the fact that there are no negative consequences for him or Jonas pretending. It is often different for actual gay men. If Adam had done a photoshoot dressed women's clothing (as Harry did tho I doubt Adam would be interested) he would be pushed so far down in that stereotypical gay box and the lid fastened tight. I was watching Ellen yesterday and she had as a guest a young gay man who was just voted off Idol, before he reached top 10. He gave a good performance and getting on Ellen was a good opportunity for him. But in his interview, he spent most of his time talking about wearing eyeliner, painting his nails and dressing up. You could not miss the girly blouse or the eyeliner and painted nails and he talked about his sexuality. So I wondered why he didn't spend some time talking about the type of music he wanted to make or the career he hoped for. It is not easy to get on network tv and there may not be many other chances. And it is so hard to break thru in the music industry for gay men and yes a few have. Most of the time they topped the charts before anyone knew they were gay so the path was easier. Yes, it is easier for straight guys to do the "pretend gay" thing. It's taken very lightly with no serious undercurrent. Harry Styles is flying pretty high right now so he has lots of opportunities and is taking advantage of them. Seems like a good enough guy. He's getting the media attention that he wants and needs like all celebrities do. I would love to see Adam get his chance to do a real acting role, not just some guest shot thing. It's long overdue for him.
I didn't see the Ellen show and I don't know anything about that young gay man. Sounds like he's trying to overtly use his gay identity as a boost. May work, may not. This is certainly a different era from when Adam was on Idol.

The reason for the lack of bids is the shipping charges....they are simply stupid high. Nobody in North America is prepared to pay those prices for shipping....I commented on that a couple of days ago. If those charges are dictated by ebay, then I would suggest they find a different vehicle to sell them. There is no need for that ..... |

I am assuming the gay young man eliminated was Beane....tho I did not watch the Ellen show. He is cute and somewhat talented....but he would not have gone so far anyway....there are half a dozen others with far more talented. That said....there are a couple of wgwg who should have gone before Beane...imho. One is a kid with a really ugly mullet who wears a cap over his eyes...way over his eyes. He does not have the talent for that spot at all....maybe in a few years...but not now. again, imho. There are a few...3 for sure....really talented girls and if one of them does not win, it will be a travesty. My money would be on Grace....

I agree with that. I have no problem with straight men playing gay roles. I would just like to see them also allow more gay men (if they fit the role) to also play straight roles and not only gay ones. It is acting so if they can play the part let them also have consideration. And guys like Harry seem to be carrying the "pretend" outside an actual role. |

In a way I think the gay appropriation is kind of like black appropriation.. Taking their identity to get fame and money... It makes me sad.
