Last night I had dinner with a songwriter. He told me that he gets $0.13 for every time his song is played on the radio and $0.11 for each itunes song sold. I was skeptical about these numbers. They seem rather high to me. Thoughts? I seem to remember the going rate for the Idols was $0.09/Itunes song. However, I do think the song writer can make close to the singer in royalties. Q3 knows better than me.

Thanks Stardust. I knew there was SOMEONE who said he was gonna play it. Would airplay before it's released be counted as hits or adds or whatever??? Spins always count, but they don't need to add songs before they spin them. Some stations add early but don't play them. Some stations play songs a lot, but never add them. Adds don't matter, spins do!!!

HSM - where'd you go? Is there a timeline for this Numbers Adds game? Are we guessing how many adds for the 1st week, 1st 2 weeks, the month of December? I was guessing for first week of official adds. However, stardust reminded me that the initial release date and the official adds date are two different days. [grins] May just have to base our guesses on whichever day works better!

Q3 knows better than me. I remember hearing that NAL was making more that Adam due to writing more of the songs on his album. I think songwriters do pretty well. I just can't imagine how a radio station can afford to pay $0.13 per play just to the song writer. That's a LOT of $$$. I've advertised on radio, the ads are spendy, but they aren't THAT expensive.
