Aw! Adam had a successful Brunch. Looked like a nice setup. Good for him.
I noticed that Ferras was there. He has been signed to Katy Perry's label for years but it seems she had not been able to do much of anything for him. She signed an artist, a former Idol contestant, not long ago and released a song for him that went nowhere. Adam Levine also has his own label and has not had success with anyone he signed. It must be hard and very expensive to try to launch artists that the majors are not interested in. I know Levine is worth over $100M and Katy over $300M but I would not expect them to use a lot of their money on artists that are unlikely to make a return on the investments. And they are too busy with their own lucrative and high profile careers to invest much time trying to manage or guide them. So they would need to hire others and that would be costly. It makes you wonder why they even bother. The young man from Idol seemed so excited when Katy signed him. But their labels seem more like vanity projects that don't have the means to be successful for anyone's career. I know Levine's label was distributed by Interscope (did not seem helpful) but I guess if Interscope were interested in investing in the artists he signed, they would have signed them themselves.

I am so glad Adam's brunch was such a success. He is so open with his home and inviting people in. I enjoyed hearing him talk about his own experience even though it was a short clip. I don't think we've even heard an iota of what he's been through with labels, etc. It's really a cutthroat business. If those big stars start their own labels but can't successfully launch a new artist, then you know it must be hard to do. Adam is smart to diversify into other areas of performing, like his animated film work, etc. He'll get new music out in that new album from the musical. He's a lot more savvy now. His own solo music will come again in time. He's is really working at things that matter in various ways. It's good to be known for that. Says a lot about a person's character.
I was in just about the exact spot Adam is standing in that pre-9/11 photo. We were there in July of 2001. I have a photo of my DH and me with the same background. Such an eerie feeling.

Just sort of musing here....but wouldn't it be great if as a group they could cooperatively pool their resources and create an Album called something like "QUEER" and have each of the group donate and release a track on the record. You have names from Adam and Demi....then you have LP; Ferras; Justin Crumb; Mary Lambert; Camilla Grey who have credible musical connections and a fair amount of recognition. You have many there I clearly do not know well. Then there are a few that have known Adam for years but were not there...but are immensely talented and could give benefit...and get benefit...from being involved...Jake Shears; JustinTrantor; Vincent; who am I missing here? there are so many really gifted and talented queer folk that don't seem to have a real shot at authentic musical representation. There is always more power in numbers and this could be a strong synergy...
There is always a temptation to include known and proven allies but in this case, I think that would only dilute the product and message....
Just my usual daydreaming....
Now I have to focus on sad things...a friends brother just passed from Covid [double vaxxed but with a myriad of health challenges] and the Celebration of Life for a loved SIL. Be back later....

I'm sorry about the sad things, Mszue.
I like your idea though.

And unless you are on a major, chances of getting substantial radio play or on the big streaming playlists are slim. It is pretty hard for some on a major as well. And with the dominance of streaming, there are artists who live at the top of the album charts with mostly streaming alone. But Adam (like Jhud) does not wait on the charts or for someone to find an easier path for him, even if frustrating. Between fronting Queen, animated shows, tv judging, solo work, pride participation/encouragement, guest opportunities and his foundation, Adam is on the move. I look forward to him continuing to expand his career with diverse opportunities.
