I really enjoyed Adam's speech. And he was on point. But artists (gay or straight) are only going to be successful with a huge push and money behind them. Adam had some of that at the beginning of his career. Then the head of RCA, who really believed in him, moved (or was forced out) to another label and put money and resources behind Frank Ocean. Frank said in an interview, that before Barry Weiss came on board, he had little support and money behind him. When Frank came on strong, I kept thinking if only Barry had been around for Adam's second album, maybe RCA would have remained in his corner and kept him on the radio. Barry has a new independent label now and has successfully launched a new artist (an artist Adam has referenced). Seems that when he believes in you, he gives it his all. Also, a major put a lot into pushing SS. And of course LNX has major support and he is more out there than any to date. No one would call him "safe", lol. Daughtry, who is straight, just gave an interview where he said all the changes at RCA kept him second guessing himself. He kept trying to adapt to each change of leadership (AR all wanting something different)and it hurt his career when they tried to make him more pop. Now he is doing the rock that he likes as an indie artist and rock radio is playing him. Right now he is up to #6 on the rock charts. It is a smaller chart but no more trying to compete with the pop divas or LNX, lol.
They all have their styles and talents and what works for one may not work for another. Would anyone take SS seriously if he tried to copy the style and dance thru performances like LNX? Would anyone take SS seriously if he tried to rock out like Adam does with Queen? Is there anyone waiting to hear LNX sing and wow you as Adam can? Would anyone want to see Adam doing a striptease and dancing with a stage of male dances on an award show? HA. I guess some would but you get my point. He may have been inclined to do that at 20 but unlikely at 39. He is more known and recognized for his huge vocal talents and commanding stage presence than he is for choreographed dance routines that most pop divas and some rappers seem to rely on. The AMA's the exception and it is still painful the way that turned out.

Too many times Adam has been backed by some pretty strong promoters in the business only to be cast aside. His talent is off the charts, so that's not the issue. But he is hard to market. His core fanbase is steadfast and loyal but it hasn't been easy for him to get the support to grow that fanbase. Getting any decent radio play has been really hard. I like your examples of different artists and their unique styles and how no other artist can do exactly what they do. Adam has certainly had his share of frustrations. Just having one of the best voices on the planet is not enough. Velvet is a masterpiece of an album. Largely unheard. We all hope the next solo go-round will be a big one. Velvet deserved to be the one, but fate took over. in the meantime, he's busy with many things. Interesting how someone like Lil Nas X is so widely embraced while being so overtly over the top in ways that Adam paid a huge price for. Grr.

It was good to hear all of Adam's speech. But does he live under a flight path? or maybe all of Los Angeles is under a flight path?? We all know that Adam was trying to prove a point with his first album cover, but I can sympathize with the RCA people. I remember going into a record store to buy the CD and the young female cashier laughing at the cover. I thought "oh, oh:(" I read a very interesting article about LNX on BBC today. It sounds like he has a lot of experience with the internet and social media -- something that I would say Adam could do better at. I could say different generation, but someone like Brian May has certainly taken to it, so who knows what Adam thinks about connecting online. This is the link to the article and how "Old Town Road" came about. www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-58583320
