Tomorrow is another day and I'm not giving up anytime soon. It's to soon to declare this song dead. RCA better get their butts in gear!!! I don't think they have been doing their part as well as they should have. Adam won't give up and we shouldn't either! Grrrrrr!!

I don't agree. There is no way a song that receives more national coverage wouldn't shoot up the charts. Didn't virtually all the stations add his songs within weeks of release just like Kelly's? I am of the view that radio uses the brainwashing technique. Play a song every hour and see if it does not stick in your head somehow even if you hate it. The only time it does not probably work that way is if the artist involved is having some high volume negative press going on + radio refusing to spin it further. Ultimately everything lies with radio. The more radio spins, the more it sticks and more sales it racks up. Even Chris Brown with his negative image and press sell big music due to radio spinning. Study the radio charts, the moment radio reduces spins, so does the song sales start scratching down the sales rack. How would you compare WWFM that had scattered adds and was not being exposed simutaneously to all parts of the US market able to rack up the sale callbacks or sales to the another song being played in all the nooks and crannies of the entire market? Isn't the game is to get radio to play to drive up both single and album sales. No artists except those that do not need radio like U2 or so sale without radio play. CB gets radio play for the same reason Bruno and other artists do. Listeners liked his song, they bought it on itunes, the radio call-outs were positive and he had label support. These are the four things that Adam is going to need for BTIKM to climb the charts. If it was as simple as massive radio play creating hits, then the last single from Christina Aguilera would have been a mega hit. The listeners have to respond positively and push the song up on itunes for the radio stations to get the message that it is something their listeners want to hear. Once again, Kelly got those early automatic adds because she is an artist with a decade of top 10 hits under her belt. Once Adam gets to that point, he will have the same type of advantages and good will with radio stations that Kelly has. At this point, Adam doesn't have that. All he can do is pick good songs and lend his massive vocal talent and songwriting skills to make the songs the best they can be. He then has the job of promoting his song by giving interesting interviews and killer performances of his single. Adam is more than doing his job, now RCA NEEDS TO DO THEIR JOB! mys*&@^#r: I do trust that RCA has some type of plan! How could they want to screw this up? Like I said earlier, if they can push songs like Gavin Degraw's song and Daughtry's song to radio- they must have some strategy for Adam's singles and his upcoming album! Well Christiana's song was selling as radio was spinning it. It was just selling below the AI of the spins she was receiving just like Kelly's MKIA. Radio stopped spinning her song because soon after she released the music video the press and general publc was awashed with how she was copying Gaga etc. If radio had not stopped spinning it, the song would have evetually racked up enough sales to hit plat since it never fell off iTunes 100. As for Chris Brown, shortly after his hoopla with Rihanna around 2009, he released several singles and even some with big name colaborators, none charted on POP and sold because radio did not spin him. No radio no listeners for your song to buy and determine if they like it. He at some point even begged radio on his Twitter which was covered by Yahoo News etc and begged fans to request for him or radio. His recent hits on POP is because radio opened up to him again and started spinning him. Check his singles release in the past 3 years if you are unsure of what I am saying. No one can buy a song they don't know it exists. Adam needs the radio exposure and be given the same chance all the others whose songs are exposed to a large medium are before we know how it connects. Radio gurus always say until a song AI is at 10m, you can't say how it connects with people because that is when the a song is truely saturated and expected to be reflected sales-wise. Kelly's sold below her spin increases for a long time, but radio supported her because they kept spinning it. Even at that it took her over 4 months to get those 1m single sales. Another example of a song being not popular with people, but because radio supported it sold relatively well that people normally use as an example is the Orianthi's song. That song topped out at no.3 on POP radio and eventually sold its 1m+ sales.

Kelly's song made it to #4 on itunes within 24 hours and stayed in the top 10 for several days. MKIA was in the 20s and 30s on the overall itunes chart during the time period that it was stuck at #17. The song never fell below the top 50 and ended up making it to the top 10 once the song made it that high. Radio was going to support a song that was charting 10-20 places behind it's place on the CHR chart. Plus, Kelly must have had some pretty good label support and she had top-rate promo opportunities. The radio stations must have also been getting good feedback from their listeners through market research.
I am fully aware of Chris Brown's history. He made a comeback with his last album and he has a massive fanbase. The general public was ready to forgive him or didn't care anymore about his past because his album sales were good. Radio started playing his singles because listeners were buying his songs and responding positively to his new music.
Every song takes a different path, but they do all follow a general formula to gain more radio play. Radio can push songs somewhat, but listeners have to REALLY like a song for it to sell 10 or 12 million copies.
Adam is not a victim. He is doing his part. His fans are doing their part. My hope is that RCA is doing their part behind the scenes. If all of that comes together, and listeners start buying the song on itunes and responding in a positive manner to radio call outs- BTIKM will get more adds and it will move up the charts.

It's a new day so we'll see how things turn out. I'm still exhausted from angsting yesterday but I'm ready to start over. I don't have the radio knowledge many of you have so I'll stay out of that discussion, but I have 2 things to say:
1) That Buffalo PD also stated that requesting the song too much is gonna piss of radio stations/PDs. And by "too much" she meant a few times a week! I no longer have the link to her twitter or I'd post it exactly. So we're damned if we do & damned if we don't?
2) I love BTIKM and don't want to see a switch to another single. That's admitting defeat & it's too early for that. Besides from the UK reveiews it sounds like the songs (fabulous as they are) will not be easily accepted by US radio - at least until the way is paved with a "safer" song.
3) I think Toby Keith & Joe the kingmaker are in cahoots to sabotage Adam. ;D Seriously - RCA has the perfect artist. He sings the shit out of songs, he's gorgeous, articulate, creative & willing to work his butt off. They should be promoting him big time and thanking thier lucky stars they have him. *I bring up TK because his latest "blog" about A's new album cover contains this statement:
While the song has been gaining radio airplay momentum, initial reports from sources close to Lambert's label have expressed a degree of interest in what could be considered less-than-overwhelming single sales via iTunes and other digital music services. While exact figures are unknown, it's believed label sources wanted to see more units of the single sold. He's a P.A. NALBert.
I had to get some of this off my chest & don't want to upset peeps in the News thread. We're more realistic here. LOL
Now - onward & upward!

Just got caught up on yesterday's news thread & I see everything's been discussed to death there so I apologize for my earlier post rehashing what's already been said. I stick by my evaluation of TK in spite of what Q3 said.

Hi guys! RL has been....well....interesting as of late, but things have stabilized. When I have more energy, maybe I'll post on the Members Thread. In the meantime, I've been looking at the Numbers. Guys, there will be no autoadds on Top 40 this week. No stations (that haven't already added) have spun BTIKM at least 7 times. That said, there may be manual adds, with a rumor that Boston might come on board tonight. Boston would be awesome! However, I wouldn't count on it. Nor, would I be shocked if we didn't have many adds today at all. Keepin' it real and in perspective folks. So no one is surprised later.

[wry grin]
Let be honest. Toby Knapp was a douche for that statement. However, take a look at who has added so far in the big markets.
Hot AC (of top 50 US stations)
Station / Spins LW / Market / Owner/ /Market Rank / Date Added KLLC-FM * 30 San Francisco CBS Radio 4 01/02/12 KHMX-FM * 10 Houston CBS Radio 6 01/02/12 KBFF-FM 5 Portland, OR Alpha Broadcasting 23 01/17/12 WLTJ-FM 0 Pittsburgh Steel City Media 25 01/17/12 WOMX-FM * 16 Orlando CBS Radio 35 01/02/12
Top 40 (of top 50 US stations)
Station / Spins LW / Market / Owner/ /Market Rank / Date Added 20 On 20 * 74 >SiriusXM XM Satellite Radio, Inc. 0 01/17/12 KUDD-FM 9 Salt Lake City Simmons Media Group Inc 30 01/17/12
Canada Hot AC (of top 20 Canada stations)
Station / Spins LW / Market / Owner/ /Market Rank / Date Added CIGL-FM 7 Belleville Quinte Broadcasting 0 01/11/12 CKBZ-FM 9 Kamloops Jim Pattison Broadcast Group LP 0 01/17/12 CHUM-FM 26 Toronto Bell Media 1 01/04/12 CJFM-FM * 7 Montreal Astral Media 2 01/17/12 CIOO-FM 16 Halifax Bell Media 13 01/19/12
Canada Top 40 (of top 20 Canada stations)
Station / Spins LW / Market / Owner/ /Market Rank / Date Added none
There are a LOT of gaps that need to be filled here for BTIKM to be sucessful.
That said, San Francisco, Toronto, and Sirius are spinning the song like crazy, and it *is* still quite early in the promo cycle, so glass half full and all that. :D
