On another slow day, may I suggest a topic for the thread? It has been a long time since we did this one.
A friend knows you like this singer... what's his name? ... but has never heard him. You have a chance to show them a few samples of Adam on YouTube. What videos would you show them to convince them he is the best singer of our generation? You can list up to 5, but you have to include a link to the video (unless someone has already included the video in their reply).
Will you pick songs showing his wide range of styles/genres? His powerful emotional connection? His masterful technique or range? His humor? His showmanship?
Okay, go!

Then I looked at them and realized they were 4 covers, 3 of them ballads, all of them showing his technique and range, because that's just who he is...

People usually like hearing something they already know and compare it to the original. What I think I'll do is show that friend 3 completely different versions of Somebody to Love, to show Adam's artistry and how many things he can do with the same song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zluRcrAp5cQyoutu.be/tHnxB1XqZB4?t=114www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx1X5d1c83M

Hope I've remembered how to post! Thanks to everyone who keeps Atop going and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Scotland. I lurk every day but don't often post mainly because I'm not as tech savvy as I should be! Anyway, I love all the Isle of Wight stuff of course and the Project Angel Food Stuff and Wembley Arena December 2017 and TOH Hammersmith Apollo 2016 (I was there second row in balcony immediately behind Roger Taylor and Boy George!) But I particularly love QAL Helsinki November 2017 Somebody to Love and hopefully I can bring it across here. If not maybe somebody could tell me How.

This acoustic performance of WWFM that is on the Acoustic Live album is THE performance that changed my Dad's mind about Adam! It sounds super wonderful on a decent audio system with 4 speakers or good headphones! www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0Grdbhm2q4

Perfect choices. His own ballads and ballads or rock covers are some of the best. He could have been Adele or at the very least SS with the right label, song choices and massive push. I know some think Adele is boring. I'm not a great fan of hers but I must say, I would rather see her dominate the charts with her music than Camila, Selena, Olivia, Mendes, Beiber, Ariana and any rapper of the moment. I don't find them so exciting either.
And I think Adam is very successful and so grateful that he is. His covers of ballads and rock songs have made people take notice of his great vocal ability and style. But he had his own songs that could have been massive if given a chance. He could have competed with the likes of Adele and SS and Bruno (Grenade and Just the Way You Are) with some emotional ballads. Adam's voice is better and more powerful, imo. But he would have also had the style, looks, rock star edge, and persona to go with the once in a generation voice. Who would have called him boring cause he was singing songs with depth, emotion, meaning or even rock and not the next club banger with dancers on stage? That is what he does with the covers and it works. But his own songs could have worked if released and pushed. Closer To You, There I Said It, Underneath, Feel Something, Chokehold, Can't Let You Go. Runnin, Shady, Lover Boy (one could rock or dance to those gems) etc.

It's' true that his Queen performance have reached countless masses of people worldwide. It's natural to think first of those Queen songs being sung in those huge arenas filled with Queen fans who are loving him.
lurleene, you always read my mind. Adam's own music contains all the qualities of other artists' big hits. Melody, lyric, emotion, energy, dynamite hooks, etc. With very little help from his labels, he has done pretty darn well. The songs you list at the end of your post are perfect examples of what a vocal master he really is. It's not all about big glory notes, although those are his trademark. He has all the nuance and perfect phrasing in his quieter songs, too. If I was introducing him to a non-fan, I would use his won music first and then add Queen as frosting on a very delicious cake.
