David Bowie At 75: Why Artists From Dave Gahan And Trent Reznor To Miguel Call Bowie An Inspiration And IconJan 8, 2022,03:01pm EST by Steve BaltinSenior Contributor Just the Adam part....Today, January 8, would have been David Bowie's seventy-fifth birthday. In honor of one of the greatest rock stars, and most beloved and revered artists of all time by his peers, here is what some of the biggest stars in music today — from Trent Reznor and Gerard Way to Miguel and Diplo — have said to me about the late great rock legend over the years. ... Adam Lambert" The thing that made Bowie so special is obviously his amazing songs, but also his visual presentation was like nothing else at the time. And he definitely carved out his own lane that way. So whenever I take a risk either sonically or visually I definitely think of artists like Bowie, who paved the way for that type of expression." Already soooo tired of hearing about Lil Nas X. I get the whole "pushing the envelope" thing. Heck, Adam has done it lots of times. But there's a kind of "wanna-be" thing about LNX that just seems artificial. But heck, it's sure working for him. JMO

JMO I just always remember Adam reminding every interviewer about his music, and that he could sing too. Whatever talent some of these personalities have or don't have is getting lost, at least for me, under all the pushing...Lizzo and her "body positivity" and Lil Nas X and his "gayness". And I'm sure there are others that I can't think of at the moment. For me it's always about the music...can you sing? I don't care if you're fat or if you're gay, can you sing?

I don't care if you're fat or if you're gay, can you sing? syca, you are absolutely right. Unfortunately, many singers who don't sing very well at all have big hit records. Even Adam said, "It's not about the voice." Nobody would ever say that Bob Dylan has a great singing voice. But he wrote songs for the ages. Lots of frontmen of major bands are not the greatest singers but they are great showmen, like Mick Jagger for example. Carole King is a legend in many ways, but she doesn't have a great singing voice. She'd be the first one to say so. Of course, she started out at a songwriter, not a performer, but she does sing, and she's great in her own way. So we have to accept the fact that great voice quality isn't the whole attraction. Adam has a one-in-a-million voice for sure. But somehow his own music doesn't get out there to be heard and appreciated.

And everyone wants others to use part of their interview and promotion time to talk about him. But I rarely hear him acknowledge anyone else in his interviews. He mostly talks about how he is bolder and more successful than other gay artists. But this is a different time. He can get away with things (that won't ruin his career) that others could not. And it is good that times are changing. However, an artist can be authentically gay without singing about gay sex all the time. Just like straight artists, they should also be able to sing about love, romance, emotion, rock, dance or whatever kind of music they want to make. And there are different ways to be sexy for males and females, gay or straight. It doesn't always need to be an in your face statement. It can be appealing to many diverse types of people and fans. There should not be one box or way for gay artists to sing or look to be considered sufficiently gay. Otherwise they are called out for not being themselves or real in the eyes of some. Who wants to be viewed as stereotype anyway? That could be limiting for a career. There should be room for different gay artists with different vibes just like there is room for Adele, Taylor, Bruno, Cardi B, HER, Drake, Beiber, Selena or the Weeknd.
Not a fan but I'm glad LNX is doing well. But this all reminds me of back in the day when everyone was worshiping at the feet of Gaga and no one was allowed to be interviewed without talking about her. And she could not be bothered to give any of them the time of day or even a pat on the head. It was as if the person you were interviewing were not interesting or accomplished enough so you want to talk about someone who is. It was overkill and annoying as hell. She was already getting more than enough attention. So when I want to read about LNX I will seek out articles about LNX, lol.

Lol, I remember that, Lurleene...the times we were so excited that Adam was getting an interview on tv, and instead of promoting his concert or his music, he would get stupid questions about Gaga.
