Smooth Radio 10 iconic popstars who broke LGBT boundaries
www.smoothradio.com/news/music/lgbt-boundaries-broken-gay-icons/ 3. Adam Lambertwww.youtube.com/watch?v=plYAc5pT-PY&t=3sThe American Idol singer would eventually step into Freddie's shoes, but Adam Lambert had already made huge strides for the LGBTQ+ community before touring with Queen. Despite coming second in the finale of the 2009 series, Lambert would wait until after before revealing his sexuality. "I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I'm gay" he told Rolling Stone magazine, which wasn't received too kindly by his Glambert Fan Club. Still, that didn't stop Lambert from becoming the first openly gay artist to hit Number One on the Billboard charts with his second album Trespassing.

I think they are mixing that up with the Clay fans when many turned against him. How could anyone not know Adam was gay when everyone was talking about it (even the media) lol. I saw it on FOX and CNN while he was competing. They wanted to know if a gay guy could win. Well I guess not at that time. But Adam could not address it at the time because they were not allowed to give interviews back then. But most of his fans were not upset and they continued to support him. When he gave a formal interview to Rolling Stone it was NOT a surprise to his fans.

I think you're right about the mixup, Lurleene. Clay lost a lot of fans when he came out in People after his son was born. Some of his fans were extremely angry as they had been defending him for many years and they felt duped.
I've been following Adam since AI, and I sure don't remember fans getting angry with him for the RS article. I think we pretty much all knew at that point.

Yep, if nothing else Adam had some loyal fans who would defend his honor no matter what. I remember an article back then commenting on how Clay's fans had turned on him and many people would make fun of him. They said but Adam Lambert, if you go after him you have to fight the whole Chinese army, lol.
