My take on the Pressparty interview is that Adam very smartly is talking about a very "personal" album in a way that makes it about universal experiences. Things that people can relate to.
I think that's an interesting balancing act. His own life experiences are not very "common"-- LA club kid, theater guy, rising pop star, openly out gay celeb, world tour, etc. So the trick is to make an album that is real and honest to himself but also convince people that the emotions he experiences are emotions that are experienced by everyone. I think that was his intention here and he did it quite well IMO.
As he says, "the best songs resonate with the masses." This interview I think gives us a good taste of how he will speak about the album going forward. He very obviously does not want to be a niche artist, but a true pop (ie popular) artist. Good for him!
