For some reason which doesn't make logical sense at all to me, but probably psychologists could explain, a poll or voting opportunity grows in importance in fandom not relative to the actual tangible reward but to the adversity the voters experience. There is no reward for this one, except for the radio station which now has more clicks which translate into advertising revenue for that month. There was no reward for the last one that pitted us against Archie, but it distracted fandom from other contests with concrete tangible rewards like the takeover at that time and the Do Something Awards. All I see this poll leading to is assumptions of unfairness on the part of the radio station (and tweets to them about this from normally level-headed fans), fan warring with Avril fans, conspiracy theories, and possible burn out of some fans who sometimes make the frustrated leap to assuming every radio station voting opportunity is just click bait and pass on relevant ones going forward. sigh.... If only I could convince myself that every jingleball power voter had done their once a week or more requesting from their local radio stations I'd feel better about. Maybe they have? Who knows. / grumpy moment I'm glad you had a grumpy moment. It is giving me a chuckle as I decide to make it an early night and get some sleep. We just have to accept that we are out of our minds and everything about Adam and our fandom is illogical. I have no love or respect for these stupid polls............... shhhhh, but I still vote because the thought of Adam losing ANYTHING is intolerable. With that thought in mind, night all. The 4 hours sleep I got last night is making my eyes glaze over, or maybe it's old age!! It seems the radio stations and internet sites have Berts in their sites, seeing us as a great resource for hits. To prevent early burnout and a massive carpal tunnel epidemic, maybe Q3 could do what she did last time around - rate these contests according to how valuable they are to Adam. Whataya think, Q3? :

Fair warning - scroll bar for all those who want to avoid strolling along my late night musings written to the backdrop of music by the unknowns, in this case 'Young the Giant' and streamed via Sophie Radio. An eternity ago, or about 2 1/2 years ago to be exact, I fell over my first Upright Cabaret video of an artist I had never heard of, but who was creating all kinds of media buzz. Until then I used to expect very little of myself when it came to pop music or even solo singing performances of modern music in general. Listen for minute, start yawning, stop the video utterly bored, move back to whatever was going on prior to the detour. Rock, classical music? That was different, there the chances were better, but in pop (in the widest sense), that was pretty unheard of. Then Adam made me detect the replay button and taught my fingers how to find it blindly. He made me sit up and LISTEN. Through background noise, bad recording, waiters serving drinks, whatever it was, his voice, his lyrical interpretation, his performance style just came piercing though right into my shattered set of expectations. And with that my trip down the rabbit hole began. One thing that I knew I would find down that rabbit hole was MUSIC AGAIN. Music I could be exited about, music that was worth listening to with attention, music that was worth talking about. Music that was not only background noise, but that would move me, as in take me from one place and drop me off in another. There were other elements to the journey, but this musical journey was certainly a big part of it. I began with all the originals to the music Adam was covering or talking about, his own list of musical influences, things other Adam fans were recommending and bit by bit my music horizons got widened more than I ever could have imagined even months earlier. One important discovery for me was that while Adam was compared to or measured against the divas or the present list of pop stars, I personally found that I could or did not want to transition in my musical interests to what they were singing - I still often barely last longer than 1 minute with their songs. But on the other hand I have found again and again that certain Indie music captured my interest quite easily. While nobody compares to Adam, lol, at least it allowed me to tune in where otherwise I had tuned out a long time ago. Musically, Adam has more in common with lots of the indie music out there than with the commercial crap on the charts. And the charts have started changing too, Adele and Bruno are sounding different than what we heard in the first decade of the millenium and probably leading ahead. But acts like Foster the People, Bon Iver on mainstream radio show that things have started to change. The only hurdle with indie music is to find the best fishing grounds in the huge pond that they are swimming in. I noticed too that Sophie below has stopped putting Adam up against other big artists who might be disappointed or hurt to be "slaughtered" by the glam voting army. Now Adam is put up against artists who are unknown in the mainstream pop world and Sophie is with this serving a crossover function between these often way too separate worlds of label vs indie. They have decided to use our attention for something good, which is to introduce certain indie music acts to us. What a great idea and what a gift to us for our loyalty of visiting them with regularity. They have made me listen up and especially today with Young the Giant, I found the music quite enjoyable, not earth shattering in a change the world kind of way, but worthy a listen or a hit of the replay button. So, I find it interesting that this discussion today led others down the same path. Hoopla, really enjoyed your post too, but I'm not quoting it, because it would make the quote huge, but it sounds like you also found new music there. 8-) Adam is still maintaining a narrow lead in the Q102 Jingle Ball poll, and I'm guessing that either today or tomorrow is the last day for it, so if you want to throw in a few votes-- www.q102.com/pages/jb-brackets/index.htmlI voted in that Sophie's Challenge poll too, but have to ask: am I the only one who, so far, hasn't heard of any of the challengers? Mikey Wax? Young the Giant? Who are these people? Well, I hadn't heard of any of them. but, that doesn't say much. I don't really listen to any pop except Adam. However, I did wonder if they were featuring some of their favorite "unknowns" knowing that many fans would gravitate to the poll, and win or lose, it would be good exposure for the other artists. So, I have today decided to buy some songs that I like via their provided links. Adam may be getting the 97 % on these polls, which for me starts to have the character of "going there to leave my mark - tell them they are still having my attention", but truly I have started to branch out and find other music that interests me. Adam has not yet got his sophomore album out, but he has changed my music world well beyond just FYE and has brought all kinds of musical influences to me and I know I am not alone with that. While we wonder how much Adam over time will change or influence the pop music scene or where his own musical direction will take him, he indirectly has already taken his fans to new music. So for me my vote on Sophie is done with interest and enthusiasm. I find that a worthy cause, which to be honest, I have a hard time seeing in what Q102 is doing with their nonsense polls.

This made me think of my favorite Mad Wold performance and I could never find the one where you can SEE him but your post led me to it. He takes this version to church starting at around 3:00. Holy jesus. All three of them were on fire especially Adam and Longineu. I wonder why they never did a version like this again?

My 2 favorite live Adam acoustic performances (along with around a hundred others) Mine too, the radio station finally released good video/audio of some of the songs Adam sung here, but faded them out to intersplice their interview with him in their online video. :( I caught myself seriously wondering if we could bribe them to post the full audio and video versions of the songs since they have them recorded. I'd contribute to that kickstarter, ngl.

It's not the one I'm thinking of but IT'S A GOOD ONE! Thank you. The one I remember seeing was shot from outside and you could see Adam from the back and side right before he started singing. I've always wondered what he could have been thinking knowing he'd have to walk down through all those screaming fans. It was a very exhilarating entrance to watch cuz he got such a great reception. I was at both the Hyannis show & Cohasset show. I cannot even begin to explain the thunderous cheers of excitement felt at the opening in Cohasset. Of all the shows I attended THAT was the loudest, most exhilarating entrance! The place literally shook & the the noise level was deafening. As much as I loved the stair entrance, I must say the entrance at these two shows, walking down through the aisles, added so much drama to the opening. I only video taped the encore in Cohasset, but I did tape the opening at the Hyannis show. The tents were identical so you can get the idea of what the Cohasset entrance was like. Getting goosebumps all over again! mariep Thank you for posting this video. I've seen it before and the reason I remember it not only because of the crowd but it's one of the VERY RARE videos that capture SO good the colors and textures of Adam's clothes, the colors are so real , and the hat and feathers , like an amazing peacock he is. :D

I really think we are underestimating Avril to assume that she would never win this poll unless it were really 'ALL' about Adam...and his haters. Avril has been an internationally popular young person's star for 10 years...she is huge in Japan and the rest of Asia particularly...has 3 X the twitter fans Adam has....has sold millions of albums.....yadayadayada. I do not like her music but it is hubris to make every poll about Adam or Adam haters...and may be a bit of why we tend to anger some other star's fans. Ah, but you're looking at this logically, and IMO that's a mistake. These polls aren't logical at all. By your reasoning, neither Adam nor Avril would be in the final round ETA: Looking at Avril's competition in the earlier rounds, I'm not that surprised she made the final - she didn't face off against the biggest guns). Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber would not have been knocked out in Round 1. Adam would have never gotten past Katy Perry. And David Archuleta would have never won that Q102 "Sexiest Man" poll. I mean, seriously? Given that result, I'm shocked that Jordin Sparks was able to beat Archie in this poll. But it brings up my point...Idol Fans Are Trained To Vote. AI alums always do well in the VH1 video countdown for the same reason. And AI resentments die hard. Plus, as has been alluded to, it isn't just rabid KA stans who hate Adam - it's also rabid Cook stans. And rabid Durbin stans. And the list probably goes on. It would not surprise me at all if there is a very significant anti-Adam vote in addition to the pro-Avril vote accounting for this result, particularly since I didn't think her most recent era was a huge success (although I don't follow her and could be wrong about that). Just to add my 2 cents to a dead thread, it's not that I don't think Avril can win. She is a huge star, bigger than Adam and has a very large female following (voters!) What I don't believe is that the % can change that fast and suddenly wihtout the use of bots. :-/
