Translated from Italian (just posted on July 30th) Queen + Adam Lambert: Live Report and photos of the Bologna date! twitter.com/metallus_it/status/1553681871317483522Queen + Adam Lambert: Live Report and photos of the Bologna date
All the great musical events that have been missed due to a pandemic are about to be gradually recovered. Queen 's date with Adam Lambert in Casalecchio di Reno, in the Bologna area, has even been doubled due to a huge number of requests; we were present at that of 10 July.
A packed stadium of spectators welcomed the British band as on great occasions. A roar welcomed the opening of the concert entrusted to "Now I'm Here", for a first part of the live dedicated above all to the classics of the seventies, immortal pieces such as "Hammer to Fall", "Somebody to Love", "Killer Queen” and “Don't Stop Me Now”, all accompanied by images projected from the led wall behind the stage, in this stage with a theatrical theme. The feeling is that of being in front of a great celebration, where the two historical members confirm, if ever there was a need, to be respectively one of the most personal and influential guitarists in the history of rock, with his unique and inimitable sound, and a very solid drummer as well as an excellent singer. Lambert, increasingly master of a situation that charges him with an impossible legacy, confirms himself as a literally amazing singer, with extraordinary vocal abilities and with a remarkable stage presence. Of course, it is perfectly useless to make comparisons with a past of a range to say the least legendary, the point is that he sings wonderfully well without mimicking anyone. "No Dorma ”, from Puccini's Turandot, doing great: he is certainly not an opera singer, but he works in his own way, and besides, the connection between Queen and opera is not new.
The concert takes place in several parts, with the second featuring another batch of classics, with Taylor on vocals for "I'm in Love With My Car" and then "Bicycle Race", sung by Lambert astride a motorcycle, and then relatively more recent classics of their career such as “Another One Bites The Dust”, one of the rare moments in which bassist Neil Fairclough was enlightened in the intro; and in this regard it must be said that the musicians accompanying the band (keyboardist Spike Edney, a lifelong collaborator of Queen, and percussionist Tyler Warren completed the lineup) played without the spotlight, with the lights exclusively for the leaders, apart of course when they were introduced by May, also performing in solo moments.
A change of stage in a more "intimate" situation so to speak) with Brian May on the central catwalk to sing, voice and acoustic guitar, "Love of My Life", sung together with the audience, the arrival of the drums on site, the performance, among others, of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Under Pressure" with Taylor supporting the vocals of David Bowie . The closing of this stage is entrusted to "Who Wants to live Forever", from which a long solo by May starts, very atmospheric, with astronomical-themed backgrounds (he, a graduate in astrophysics), and then the stage full for a another batch of classics, from "Tie Your Mother Down" to the final "Bohemian Rhapsody", greeted with a roar from the audience. I bis, entrusted to "We Will Rock You” and the grand finale of “We Are The Champions" concluded a concert that was essentially a great celebration of a legend of great rock. One can argue indefinitely (without coming to the head) whether or not these are the real Queen, whether or not their operation is legitimate (for many years John Deacon withdrew), and the sense that such an operation can have. What is certain is that it was a big concert in which all the elements that characterize the band, from the sumptuousness, to the spectacular, to the glamor, to that touch of kitsch, were respected as expected. A great self-celebration in which those present had the opportunity, in about two and a half hours, to listen to songs that made history in a situation that ridicules any tribute band. This is their current dimension, and apparently the facts have proved them right. In its own right, we add.

There are those awesome Queen T-Shirts that read
"I want - to break free - to ride my bicycle - to make a supersonic man out of you - it all"
I am thinking someone should make a T-Shirt that reads
"Adam Lambert is - not Freddie - not Pavarotti - a Gift From God"
(The Italian article rubbed me the wrong way)

I'm always hesitant to say something, because I never know if something gets lost in the translation of these reviews, but there was one review of the concert that basically concluded the entire concert was just a tribute to Freddie. I'm like WHAT?? While Freddie certainly is included in the concerts, I don't see the entire concert as nothing but a tribute to him. It's amazing how some people get deified after they die..."best singer ever", "largest vocal range ever", etc etc etc. Yes, he was a great performer, but I would dare say Adam is a better singer. There, I said it lol.

There, I said it lol. I agree, I also think Adam is the better singer (and whether he is or isn't, I absolutely prefer his voice to Freddie's). I also agree the concerts are not merely a tribute to Freddie, unless one is of the opinion that Queen was nothing more than Freddie and some guys backing him - which some Freddie fans clearly believe, based on their comments. I can't help but wonder how the Queen fandom would treat Freddie if he were still alive and fronting Queen at 70-something years of age...assuming Queen would even be touring under those circumstances. Freddie was largely untrained as a singer, he smoked like a chimney, and he lived hard. Not to mention the effects of aging. How would they treat Freddie's inevitable vocal decline? I'm sure some would be thrilled to see him perform no matter how he sounded as compared to "back in the day," but I'd bet there would be others who would say he can't cut it any longer, he's desecrating his legacy and should hang it up. There is no circumstance under which all fans would be happy. There just isn't. I try to keep that in mind when I see Freddie and/or Queen purists bash Adam. I don't always succeed, but I try. Unrelated question. I just bought a new Android smartphone, an updated version of my previous phone. I never had issues accessing Atop on the old phone, but on the new one I consistently get the "Error 1000 DNS points to prohibited IP - You've requested a page on a website that is on the Cloudflare network. Unfortunately, it is resolving to an IP address that is creating a conflict within Cloudflare's system." I've tried multiple browsers with the same result. I still have my old phone, and still have no issues connecting to Atop with it. Has anyone else run into this and found a way around it?

It's amazing how some people get deified after they die..."best singer ever", "largest vocal range ever", etc etc etc. Yes, he was a great performer, but I would dare say Adam is a better singer. Especially when it comes to live singing. However, I admit Freddie was very impressive in a studio situation. Great breath control. Very creative. Case in point, I found this partial reveal of some of the BoRhap tracks in isolation super-fascinating: youtu.be/8t2w8dTx2KM
