Adam may have said it is not about the voice but in some cases, I think it was. Those who made it big and came from Idol can sing. There are so many average singers from Idol who did not make it big. Adam, Kelly, Carrie, Jhud to name a few, likely would not be where they are today but for their voices attracting so much attention early on. And with Adam's sexuality, I doubt he would have been given much of a chance (at that time) without his extraordinary talent. He probably would have never made it to second place on that show without out singing all the others. That he only wore light eye makeup and not OTT caked on makeup also was a help to keep him in the race. But make no mistake, it was his voice, along with a great performance style, that opened some big doors for him. Unfortunately it seemed no label was able to capture, or wanted to capture, that great voice and put it before the masses. He was treated like any other singer. But it would be nice to see what he come have accomplished if they put out some of his cuts that separated him from the norm and not blend. Would love to see his own music recognized the way his covers are. But he has a wonderful career anyway so there is that, lol. Without that voice and showmanship, it is unlikely that he would have made history and caught the attention of Brian and Roger.

I missed this from the other day, and I don't see any comments on it. Thought I would share it again. Baby Adam would be unrecognizable except for the most ardent Glamberts! youtu.be/GsUeH91UDd8Looks to be around the time he and his brother tried acting. Adam said Neil got cast more often. It's cool that the neighbor kids used him as he didn't have an older brother in their age group. Must have been a close knit neighborhood. The song though, lol. I had to reread the explanation again. It's great to have these old snippets.

I adore Adam, but without the amazing voice, I don't know if I would keep following him. I'm so, so happy that he takes such great care of his instrument and hopefully will be able to sing for many, many more years. I understand that singers get older, but I think it's sad to see so many older performers struggling...looking at you, Rod. When you end up talking more than singing, I think it may be time to consider retirement. I do realize the devotion to Freddie, but I think his prowess in singing has been WAAAAAAY exaggerated IMO. The claim that he's the best singer ever with the largest range sounds a bit like "wishful thinking" lol. An interesting conversation. Thinking of two retired icons who recently stepped up the mike again at a recent Folk Festival. Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon. There was some gorgeous (Joni doing Both Sides Now was super emotional and a masterclass in how to use limited range to great effect), some mediocre and some bad performance. Then there was the waves of joy and respect shown them for who they are and what they mean to people. I imagine the lure and high of a live crown is mighty hard to ignore. Adam loves singing and performing. And he has enough technique to offset any erosion. We're already seeing maturity pay off in spades with his lower register gaining power and richness every year Absent something unexpected I'm pretty sure we'll have marvellous vocals to enjoy for many years.

Adam loves singing and performing. And he has enough technique to offset any erosion. We're already seeing maturity pay off in spades with his lower register gaining power and richness every year. Absent something unexpected I'm pretty sure we'll have marvelous vocals to enjoy for many years. To be clear, Adam today sounds MUCH better than Adam 12+ years ago. I am not here *just* for the high notes (although I have been a fan of vocalists who can sing high since childhood, from Ian Gillan through Rob Halford, Eric Adams, Geoff Tate, and Michael Kiske - all Hard Rock and Heavy Metal singers). I am here for the overall virtuosity, versatility, expression, control, diction, dynamic, and I LOVE the low notes. But when Adam "does a Freddie" in a concert and changes the melodic line to avoid a high note in WWTLF after multiple shows in a grueling schedule like this year in the UK, I still feel a bit disappointed. For which I am ashamed. I guess I have accepted the claim that he is the best male vocalist alive (esp. when it is coming from Roger, Brian, and even Marc Martel), and like a fan of the MCU superheroes I want my superhero to kick ass each time
