I have no problem with other males coming behind Adam and being praised for the same sex kiss. What bothers me still today is that after the backlash for Adam, they never made it right for him. Other gays and straight guys benefited but he did not. Didn't need to see him on stage wearing some silly outfit but just a chance to showcase his talent on the bigger stages and good radio play (like the others with less talent) would have been nice to make up for the wrong done to him. Exactly. Adam was just a bit ahead of his time with his AMA performance. Just a few years later would have made a difference. And you're right. The industry did not feel a need to help support him from the fallout. He was left on his own. Sure, he made a choice that night. But as he pointed out. women before him had pushed that envelope with no backlash. But the public was just not ready for a gay man doing to the same thing. That night, his strong momentum took a huge hit and has never fully recovered as far as his solo career is concerned. Meanwhile, others who have followed him with gay sexuality onstage have not only survived it,but have seen their careers flourish as they are lavished with praises for their "courage." it's great that some people post reminders about Adam helping to pave the way for them to do what they do without fear. Agree. It was Adam was gay and how dare he, lol. Around that same time, Bruno was arrested at the airport for drugs (he was a new artist just like Adam) and Chris Brown beat up Rihanna. Neither suffered from tepid radio play or shut out of award show performances. Straight and gay men now show up on the Red Carpet dressed as women and everyone goes how daring and cute. Demi can overdose on drugs and have numerous drug setbacks and twitter fights with everyone but there she was singing the NA at the Super Bowl. No one gave a darn about the message to the "children." And I'm not saying they should have been punished but they could have cut Adam some slack too. Was he really sending a more harmful message to the "children?" Even when he was the first LGBT out male artist to have a number one album in the US, hardly anyone played his music and the album quickly died. He had more that proven himself by that time and was not newly off the AMAs or Idol. TBH, I would love to see Adam get another Grammy nomination one day outside of pop but don't care about these other awards shows. When Adam was on the Red Carpet, he was normally picked as one of the best dressed men without the "look at me" and how outrageous I look type spectacle. I loved that he was considered a handsome, stylish fashion icon and hope to see him in that role again. Also happy that he has a very successful career in any event. HA. |

Regarding the AMAs, yes, the industry was notable by its lack of support for Adam. However, I really believe part of the reason for that was not just his sexuality, but his status as a newly minted graduate of American Idol. He hadn't even released an album yet, and there he was, closing the AMAs. I'm sure there was a sense among many that the opportunity was undeserved. That the Rolling Stone cover was undeserved. That the hype, in general, was undeserved. It's so far in the past that we forget about it now, but the Idol Stigma was very much a "thing." I'm not saying there would have been no backlash to the AMA performance were he not a new Idol, but it certainly didn't help. If he'd done it as a more established artist who'd achieved fame in any other way than through Idol, he may have had more industry support than he did. But we'll never know.

Why all these rambling when Adam himself said he didn’t plan it? It was spontaneous. He didn’t want to make a statement when now every kiss on stage is planned. Btw Bruno Mars is a great songwriter and performer, no matter what he does in his private life. Maybe Adam simply needs better music in order to get awards and radio play? Just a thought, carry on

Just a thought, carry on Yep. Because ALL who get massive radio play and awards have such great music and are outstanding writers, lol. I think Adam's music and writing is just as good and sometimes better than some who win awards and get big radio play. But everything is not always fair and he has done fine without it. Fans were just having a conversation because of some of the tweets about double standards and award show performances. |
