Many schools are passing rules that you must use a bathroom of your gender at birth so they are being identified anyway. They are winning. And forcing a trans girl to use the boys bathroom could lead to bullying too. Most in school would know who is who anyway so I don't think it can be hidden in most cases. They know, otherwise what would be the problem or why the uproar? An alternative would be to have a bathroom or two designated as gender neutral. It is not perfect but going to the bathroom with friends may not be an expectation or option for trans kids in this climate. But if you have friends and you are not isolated, they may choose to use the gender neutral bathroom too.
I will never understand the problem. I had a trans child in my class from grade 3 to 6. The kids accepted her as a girl from the start. We teachers and her classmates knew, she was trans. Most of the other kids on the school didn’t and never even questioned her gender.
She used the girl‘s bathroom and changed for sports with the girls. No problem. When puberty hit, we talked about transsexualism and all was good. The only „problem“ was with swimming class in grade 3. There she got the only single cabin in the women‘s changing room and showered alone after the other girls and the problem was solved.
