Here is today's news thread.
Note: I am doing some work to update the forum templates. So some things like the site banner will be missing for a few days. All will be bake soon

Seems like all the people are missing too! LOL. Every time I read Q3's note, I get a chuckle from "All will be bake soon." Well, I think, as long as the forum is not half-baked when the work is done! And to provide a little zip to the day, listen to this again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-VqSFS9hBc

It's been quiet in here...I'm here trying not to melt in my living room. Got up to 105 yesterday, and started the morning at 5:45 at 78 already. I got excited because my phone this morning listed a high of 89...but it's 98 right now, so I guess my phone lied.

After what feels like a whole summer with highs between 90 and 103 degrees (about 30-39 Celsius). I often wished we had an aircondition. Good luck and stay cool!

Thanks, Nightowl...I hate the heat! Our townhouse was built late 70's, early 80's without AC because it never got this hot back then. I've lived here 30 years. We got a small AC that we use in the bedroom at night when it gets this hot, but the living room is too open to use something like that.
Hopefully it'll cool down in a couple of days. I'm so looking forward to winter.

Since the day is being really slow here: I saw this amusing video (and some others) by Americans about German windows on YouTube. These videos are really funny to me. It’s the first time that I realize, that the windows in the US and the UK are really very different from ours ( Although I think that new windows in the UK are often like ours.) The best thing in these hot summers are indeed the Rolladen/Shades, that block out the light and with it a LOT of the heat. I had mine down for most of the days this summer and lifted them for the night to let the cooler air in. Oh, and of course we don’t have any problems to clean our windows. It’s astonishing for me, that you can’t do that by yourself in other countries, when the window isn’t on the ground floor. youtu.be/3dNuchjXa_M

When I read Q3's message about updating the template, I was hesitant to post, because I thought it might ruin some sort of procedure she was trying to do. LOL Oh well, I guess I was being too cautious. Glad to see a few posts agin.
Here is the Chicago area, we get temperature extremes, frigid winters and broiling summers with lots of humidity. And lots of in-between weather, too. Our springs and autumns are very nice, thought, just too short. We have an old house with no central AC, just window units all over.
Hope Starstruck is getting off to a good start!

Burning Man 2022 just ended yesterday, and this means...
It is the 10th anniversary of Adamtopia in the Desert, a group of Atop members who went to Burning Man 2012 together as camp WOW, Women Out Wandering
Participants were hoopla, lindag23, grandduchess, angelkrash, nonotme. One more was revlisacat, who had to cancel fairly close to the B. Man start date due to a loss in her family. Lastly, momtomany, who volunteered in Med 9 and had been to B. Man many times with her husband, was a friend to WOW, and we visited back and forth several times.
If you would like to read the thread that has our planning and, later, the telling of some of our experiences at Burning Man, you can find it here:
On the atop home home page scroll down to where it says members only in a header, below the header click on members only info -events and meet -ups This takes you to a page with a long list of meet-ups, at the top of the list is the 2021 Venetian meet-up In the upper right corner over where it says last post there is a search bar, the in adamtopia in the desert The choices now showing have been narrowed down to 3, click on Burning Man 2012 - adamtopia in the desert This takes you to the thread. It has 106 pages. Pages 1- to about 72/73 are full of our planning efforts. We started planning a year in advance. From page 74 or so on you will find some stories about our experiences, answers to Atop members' questions , and photos and videos pulled from the internet, etc. At some point after the 2012 experience there some discussions about going in 2013.
