Since it's a calm Adam day and I have a snow day from school, I'll relay my phone conversation with my brother about Adam.
My brother is an excellent guitarist and bassist (that's his profession) and has the most eclectic music tastes of anyone I know. His house and porch are filled with recordings (early cylinders, 78s, LPs, tapes, CD) of all genres (rock, classical, jazz, gospel and on). In the past, I have shared some of my fandom with him. He's one person who will give an honest listen to anything/anyone and not be judgmental of my crazy obsession. I've played some tracks for him, and that is the reason he knows who Adam is. (He doesn't have a t.v. or keep up with pop culture. Just got a computer but it isn't plugged in yet--get the idea?)
So I decided to send him the GlamNation DVD/CD. We talked last weekend. He just received it in the mail and had watched about half the show after getting home from a gig. He was very impressed with lots of things. He excitedly told me how he loved the dancing (that was a surprise) and was impressed with the rockin' out and then all of the sudden sitting down to "talk to the audience with his bare toes hanging out." He immediately offered up that he saw influence from Pink Floyd (lasers at concert?--I don't know.) and Katy Perry (presentation). I almost started laughing for several reasons. He is NOT a person who I would think was familiar with KP, AND he likes her--even her singing. He asked me if I'd heard her early gospel recordings (more ) And he laughed out loud upon finding out (from me) that Adam and KP have known each other since before they were famous. He also likes early Britney Spears. Who knew?
So then I told my brother about the Queen performance, and being a boomer like me, he was duly impressed. Told him about what Brian May and Roger Taylor said after the performance and there might be more collabs in the future.
I was so shocked at how much he knew about newer artists. I learned so much about him and from him regarding music and as we talked about personal things too. What a great conversation that was. So I guess I will send him Trespassing. I thought if it is very pop, my brother might not care for it. Who knew?
