Too many people want to move backward instead of forward when it comes to respecting the rights and safety of those who are different from them.

I was watching the AMA's but I must have missed the reference to Adam. But I'm not going to lie but my heart hurt when I saw Anitta from Brazil do such a sexy and seductive performance (humping the floor) around 8:30 or so. And she won. Nothing wrong with her performance but they took away many and the best years from Adam. Say what you want but he never recovered from that performance and the fallout that followed in the US. He made it okay for everyone else to do what they wanted (gay or straight) but no one took care of him or made things right. I doubt he cares anymore as his focus seems to be on OTT makeup and shoes that they don't care about cause they are not going to have him on anyway. Not even to present. Maneskin accepted their rock award wearing what looked like underwear and garter belts attached. So nice that everyone now feels free to do what they want. I kick myself for even watching. HA.

Yes, that performance took valuable time away from Adam's newly exploding career. The punishment was quick, and its effect was long-lasting. But I want to believe in my heart that a good number of singers (sometimes it bothers me to say "artists") realize the injustice of what was done to him. At least those of them who were around at the time. The younger ones probably don't know a thing about it. Adam was on the cusp of being accepted by a huge, mainstream TV-watching audience. And then, boom. I sometimes think of how Barry Manilow answered a question about it. He said, "He should have just stood on a dark stage in a single spotlight and sung a great song." I am paraphrasing, of course. But that's pretty much what he said. But Adam was caught up in the moment. Mainstream prime-time viewers were not ready for it, regardless of what some female singers were doing. What he did seems so tame now.
And no, I didn't watch the AMAs tonight. but somehow I'm glad his name was mentioned, however briefly. I think of it not as an indictment but as a sort of homage.

Adam did present once on the AMAs, and I actually think there was a possibility it was originally slated to be a performance slot. It was before the release of Trespassing. At one point it was scheduled for a November release, then got pushed back. There had been rumors that Adam was going to be performing, but he wound up presenting. Then, as it happened, Daughtry - a fellow RCA artist - somehow scored a last minute performance slot. I will always believe that would have been Adam's had the album release not been delayed, but who knows.
I do remember Adam got a fantastic response from the crowd when he came out. I also remember he wore the blazer from his AMA performance outfit to present, LOL. I thought that was such an "Adam thing" to do. If memory serves, that night Sauli also wore the tie from that outfit.
