Just gotta squee a little more before going to bed. Adam hit it out of the park. And on the first performance of the song. Who else can do that??? I have to quote Simon on this one: The problem is.... nobody can top that now! Can you imagine someone trying to sing BTIKM on one of the singing competion shows? lol Great day...good night.

Thought I would bring this post over from the previous thread, since it is now 2 am. Would like other ears on this. cassie.. I think he sounded a bit nervous at the beginning .. "winter night... and I know that I... " and then I think he sang it too fast on "I tried to pretend" after All Along.. did I hear it right? But after that he sounded ahmazing ... always love his improvisations.. Yeah, I hear what you do. Nerves? Perhaps. I keep playing it over and over because there is something different in his voice, especially on the verses. I'm still trying to figure out what I am hearing. At the beginning there he has a rapid, narrow vibrato that sounds almost a bit quivering. And I hear a difference in the tone he is using. He seems to be focusing the resonance differently. The tone is less legitimate musical theater and more pop-y, if that makes any sense. To any vocalists reading this, it sounds like he is spreading the tone laterally a little more, and perhaps a little further back in his mouth? Do you hear that, too, or am I imagining things? Not a criticism. Adam has many different ways of singing. This one just sounds a bit different. And, yes, he also lowered the key. But he still had his signature wails on high beam and his meticulous pronunciation. In fact, on my high def TV I even saw him spitting a couple of places. That's a first for me. But, if anyone is starting a short list for Grammy winning pop vocalist, write his name with a broad tip sharpie right now. No one can touch that! I heard it. I liked it. And when he got to the wails at the end he sounded breathtakingly beautiful. Adam is a vocal chameleon at times. It's only possible because he is so sublimely talented.

I have to quote Simon on this one: The problem is.... nobody can top that now! Well, Adam does like the top! That man is glorious. I have watched/listened soooo many times now. I keep seeing/hearing new little things...and I haven't even looked at anyone but Adam yet! Cassie, I agree--there's something different about his voice (except for the wails--they sound just the same to me)--but his tone is different to me. It sounds more pop~ish, less musical theater--that is about as articulate as I can be about it. BUT Glittergma noticed something I HADN'T even after repeated viewings-- no ear monitors--?? That is the first time EVER I've seen that. Any guesses as to why? I'm exhausted. I've laughed, I've cried, I've stared a freakin' hole through my monitor. He was even better than I expected. ILHSFM. Have to last 55 more minutes so I can see him on my TV though. I can't DVR it. But I can watch it once on a bigger screen at least! I AM GOING TO LOVE ERA 2!

Good to know others are hearing the difference, too. As for the ear monitors, my guess is that he has become frustrated with them crapping out on him. If you notice, he has two big monitor speakers aimed directly at him, so he can hear himself and the mix. Since he wasn't planning on moving around the stage, they would serve and be more reliable.

GAh!! DAMMIT! I really need to stop cursing, but between the Leno performance and the banner photo, it seems that my mind can't think of anything else

It's 2:40am and I'm still listening to Adam and marveling at how magnificent he is. I was trying to explain to someone what I heard that was different, after only a few repeats, and couldn't quite get it right. Again, I'll leave it to those of you who are able to dissect and evaluate it, but Adam is a marvel and anyone who doesn't see that, well, I don't know what to say.
I am totally stoked for Ellen if for no other reason than to see if he pulls a WWFM on us and does BTIKM different each time he performs it.
Earlier someone mentioned a tour and what it would be like with the more sedate and grown up Adam we saw tonight. My opinion, nothing to worry about. Just as we watched the transformation from Voodoo to Sleepwalker, I'm sure he'll have surprises up his sleeve for the dancier and poppier tunes on TRESPASSING.
Since I'm making up words now, dancier and poppier, maybe I better just go to bed. It's been so much fun.
