On Leno-
SusieFierce and Mys*&@^#r have just about covered everything.
I did see Rickey Minor's reaction. During Adam's song, he turned his back to us, toward the screen, to watch Adam perform. (He was on the opposite side of the stage than Adam was on.)
I remember noticing his back and his body language, very tight stance, perfectly still...I think he was really rooting for Adam to nail it.
And so were we. I felt a lot of love and positive energy in the room when Adam came out,
and judging from his after interview, he must have felt it, too.
He looked absolutely fantastic and owned the room with his usual star presence. Movie Star handsome, movie star charismatic.
Right before he started singing, I think I grabbed MyS*&@^#r's hand, looked over at her and saw tears in her eyes. I remember thinking during the commercial break before the song about all of the adrenaline he must be feeling, how important this performance was,
a debut of the single, a new band, a new chapter...after the first few lines of the song I
knew he was going to nail it. Then the big adrenaline released notes flying out there unleashed- wild, free but somehow completely controlled, and there I was, caught up in
the familiar thrill of flying high with the notes, every emotion flung out there with abandon for a few glorious moments, before being safely pulled back in and down to earth.
And it was over.
As always, too quickly.
Over, but not over, as afterwards I went out to dinner with Adam friends new and old, and laughed and talked and ogled pictures and shared the general excitement and euphoria that Adam inspires in his ~passionate fans.
The perfect ending? On the way home, I heard BTIKM for the first time on the radio. Kind of magical. Like the time hundreds of dolphins surrounded our boat on a misty evening...
Some moments you will always remember. And those moments are even better when they are shared with friends.
