Well, things make a lot more sense now. I don't have the time or the inclination to search, but I could swear that during the taping of the second season of Starstruck, something was said to the effect that the judges who would have albums out were the ones who sang - and I wondered how that applied to Adam. I also remember thinking "Come Undone" was a cool song, but I wondered why he was singing it. Now we know! The UK Lottery performance, the Jonathan Ross performance and the (rumored) The Voice US performance also don't seem so random anymore.
Life is ironic. Adam left RCA and ended up at Warner Bros. because RCA wanted him to record a covers album. Adam recorded an album with Warner Bros. then left to record "Velvet". Now he's back with Warner - and is releasing a covers album! Yes, I know his circumstances are different now, but it just seems funny.
I'm sure I'll love the album, because Adam certainly has a way of making covers his own. I'm also happy he's working on original music, because he already spends a lot of time singing songs not his own (not that singing covers is easier - actually, IMO it's harder, because people have a version of the song already stuck in their heads). Queen isn't singing covers," per se, but it's not his own music.
Can't wait to see the track list!

I fully expect that, for me, most of the covers album will be new music lol. I'm not as well versed in all types of music as some of you guys are, so I'm excited about the album. I tend to only follow specific singers, and I don't listen to the radio, haven't for decades, plus I usually prefer Adam's version anyway. I've gone back and searched for original singers on some of the covers he's sung over the years and usually prefer Adam's interpretation.
Plus, his own music is still coming too, so IMO it's a win-win. Since it's been a while since Velvet, I'm sure this is just a quick stop-gap way to keep Adam out there.

Squee, love the happy photo. Happy photo and happy day! Just came here as soon as I heard about the new cover album. How exciting! Adam is just about to ruin some original song versions for me as I’m sure I’ll love his interpretation much more, haha! |

I think this is fabulous news! I am not the least bit "upset" about this being a covers album. Adam has NAILED every single cover he has ever sung in his life. He makes them his own. I'll bet that I'm not even familiar with some of the songs on this album to begin with, so they will be new to me. The point is that his vocal talent is so huge, that this album should be very fun to listen to! New original music will come in due time. In the meantime, I'll enjoy this album.

Such great news!!!!
(I am thrilled that Adam wasn’t “stubborn” this time and caved in to do a covers album. For someone like him with that voice it makes perfect sense to me, and I have personally loved many of his covers. It will certainly carry me over until he releases new music of his own. Hopefully, “High Drama” won’t cause too much drama from fans who only want original stuff. I have a feeling that the UK fans will be very accepting as Adam rose to fame there singing Queen music)
