FIRST LISTEN: Adam Lambert’s wonderful Trespassing….

Having spent time with Adam Lambert recently I’ve got to know him a little and knew from the get go that Trespassing would be VERY different to For Your Entertainment. And it is.
It’s pop music to the core. You need to dust off those Cuban heels, grab your disco pants and unleash on the dancefloor.
So I heard six songs today. Three are sure fire radio and chart hits – easily. And this is aside from the lead single Better Than I Know Myself.
That track is a ‘soft launch’ to an album like this.
On his debut album Adam would probably freely admit it was a little rushed. As with every person that comes out of a show like Idol, it was a case of strike while the iron is hot.
Trespassing is actually a completely different beast. Firstly, his vocals are amazing. Secondly, Adam co-writes most of the tracks – making it deeply personal. And thirdly he’s worked with some of the best producers in the business.
This album was born to fly.
It’s also something I can imagine in full being more of a ‘piece of work’ rather than just a male pop vocalist album. The scope to push boundaries with the tracks I’ve heard is huge.
It also feels like an album that will take him from being a name ‘from Idol’ in Europe to a serious player. A household name.
I can see the majority of these tracks being on radio (Capital will cream their pants over it) – and I’m told there’s more surprises in store.
There’s one track that is yet to be complete that “will blow your mind”.
What I’ve heard has given me a buzz. Most tracks gave me an excited tingle down my spine – and that doesn’t happen much when I’m thrown 50 odd singles and albums each week….believe me!
So before I start a track by track run down let me say this. I believe in this album and Adam. He’s delivered something quite special here.
Better Than I Know Myself – Lukasz ‘Dr Luke’ Gottwald, Cirky, Ammo
The first track off the new album. BTIKM is an interesting choice for the lead. It’s perfect pop and his vocals are on fire. Releasing this track first shows just how confident the label is on this album.
Outlaws of Love – Rune Westerberg, Adam Lambert
This is ‘the ballad’ of the album. As a whole I’m told Trespassing is going to have a light and dark feel as a whole. Lots of high energy dance songs on one side and then a dark side that feature the more personal stuff.
This track is all about Adam coming out, getting to know himself and dealing with prejudice he’s encountered for being gay. “Say we’ll rot in hell, I don’t think we will.”
It’s written beautifully and is empowering and you really connect with the fact this song is deeply personal. It feels like an Aguilera ballad (minus the dodgy diva fakeness).
He should be extremely proud of this one – and it will become a firm anthem for the fans…..
Cookoo – Ollie Gee, Adam Lambert and Bonnie McGee
This song is friggin’ HUGE. It’s dance pop through and through and people will be gagging to remix it. A floorfiller, massive radio hit for Europe and even has a Britney style breakdown for the dance moves to be flexed. It was instantly a winner and a definite single.
Trespassing – Pharrell Williams, Adam Lambert
Who knew that Pharrell and Adam would make such an insanely good match! Not an obvious pairing but it feels so slick. It brings the FUNK and has a Gwen Stefani Hollerback Girl clap to it. You could imagine the video the second the claps began.
It also has a touch of early Queen to it in the shape and form of the thundering bassline running throughout.
Shady (Feat. Nile Rogers and Sam Sparro) – Lester Mendez, Nile Rogers. Written by Adam Lambert and Sam Sparro
Shady is the track Justin Timberlake should be launching if/when he realises that he was once a Prince of Pop. It’s a little more pop r+b I guess and yes, it is shady. There’s a Scissor Sisters style funk feel to it that runs throughout and the guest vocals work beyond perfectly. I was excited about this one and it doesn’t disappoint.
Broken English – Lester Mendez, Adam Lambert
Easily his strongest vocal on the sampler I’ve heard. It’s subtle and controlled and reminded me of a Darren Hayes style track but with an injection of adrenalin to make it actually worthwhile listening too without wanting to top yourself when it’s overplayed.
OVERALL: I’m gagging to have Trespassing on my iPod. I’m also thrilled that he’s produced this. It’s a new Adam but most importantly it’s a better Adam. He’s raised his game, found what works and is onto a winner.

Adam Lambert Debuts New Single, Look, Band Lineup on ‘Leno’

Adamstorm 2012 has officially begun, Glamberts! I hope you guys have plenty of space cleared on your DVRs.
Last night, Adam Lambert performed his new single from his upcoming sophomore album Trespassing, "Better Than I Know Myself," on "The Tonight Show," in what was the first of many TV appearances to come (he'll also be on "Ellen" tomorrow, Thursday). The performance was America's introduction not only to the live version of the song, but to Adam's ace new band lineup: Ashley Dzerigian (My Jerusalem, Money Mark, Square On Square) on bass, Isaac Carpenter (Jesse Jo Stark, Ravi Dhar, Loudermilk) on drums, new Lambert musical director Kevin Hastings (Rihanna) on keys, and longtime band member Tommy Joe Ratliff moving to lead guitar. And for some more casual fans, who best know Adam for his most outrageous Glam Nation fashion looks (spackled-on guyliner, copiously metal-riveted leather jackets, foot-high Kiss boots, cobalt hair-streaks), the Glamerican Idol's understated "Leno" performance also served as an introduction to his smooth, sophisticated new image.
Undergoing a mild makeunder that actually brought to mind his Season 8 "American Idol" look from his acoustic "Tracks Of My Tears" performance (or maybe his 2009 Details cover shoot), Adam appeared on "Leno" flaunting a natty designer suit, a sleek physique, and subtle tone-on-tone hair highlights. Oh, but he was still wearing his signature black nail lacquer, of course--the guy is a rock star, after all.
Indeed he is. Because aside from looking damn good (the TV camera still really adores this guy), the man SOUNDED even better. He seemed to be gelling well with his new band (which will also feature Camila Grey from Uh Huh Her at future performances), and he handled the song's many upper-octave stratospheric notes with his usual ease and panache. I ask, semi-rhetorically, is there ANY pop star today, other than possibly Adele, who sings as well live as Adam Lambert? (If so, please send me some MP3s, because I'd love to hear them. But I suspect my inbox will remain empty...)

A motley assortment of musical guests hit the late-night shows last night. Perky Los Angeles popsters Grouplove shone on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, former American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert brought a new single and a new look to The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards visited Late Show With David Letterman. Midnight becomes eclectic!

Former Idol lightning rod Lambert returned to Leno with a new, choppier haircut, less makeup than usual, and a new single co-written by Dr. Luke, "Better Than I Know Myself." The track came out digitally on December 20, but according to the Hollywood Reporter it's the live debut of the song, from upcoming album Trespassing (due March 20). Unfortunately, General Electric's NBC legal team is hard at work yanking any video of the performance that doesn't force you to watch the entire episode (why not just post the clip yourselves, suits? If Kimmel can do it...), but suffice it to say Lambert hit the high notes on the blown-out mid-tempo anthem.

It's been a long wait, but countless Adam Lambert fans are rejoicing tonight.
The American Idol season 8 runner-up chose Jay Leno's Tonight Show to debut his new single, "Better Than I Know Myself." The song has been available digitally since December 20, but it was Lambert's first live performance of the track written in part by Dr. Luke and Claude Kelly (an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show is also scheduled for later this week).
The slim and surprisingly makeup-light singer was in fine form for the vocally-challenging song, which stretches the upper limits of even Lambert's super-high register. Clearly well-rehearsed and no doubt eager to get the promotional cycle started -- Trespassing, which THR named one of its 12 most anticipated albums of 2012, is due out on March 20 -- Lambert didn't fudge a note and looked smashing in the process, complete with new spikier hair 'do.

Adam Lambert has said that his upcoming album, Trespassing, will be “an exciting journey through the past two years of my life.” Our first taste of that has come by way of his first single, “Better Than I Know Myself,” a mid-tempo ballad that features his signature confessional lyrics and soaring notes. Adam Lambert gives first live performance of new single
Inspirational superstar Adam Lambert performed his brand new single for the first time last night, January 17, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
The vocal sensation took to his official Twitter account before appearing on the programme and told his 1.3 million followers to tune in: "East coasters: turn on LENO! Watch my first live performance of Better Than I Know Myself!! #openingnight."
He also sent out a message of thanks to his fans for their unwavering dedication to his career and talent, adding:
"I'm so excited for this new chapter to begin! Thank you to all of you out there for your love and support."
Lambert absolutely slayed the song's challenging melody and was met with a flood of comments from viewers and fans alike who all praised his rendition of 'Better Than I Know Myself'.

Adam Lambert gave the first late night talk show performance of his lead Trespassing single "Better Than I Know Myself" on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno last night.
At first, something made me think the whole thing was going to be somewhat understated — maybe it was the fact that this was the first time we were hearing the slick pop jam in a live setting. But then Adam hauled out his powerhouse vocals toward the end, and the audience's knickers collectively dropped to the floor.

Two weeks ago, Adam’s attorneys files for an extension because they were working on a settlement. They did not reach a settlement and Adam now wants a jury trial.
According to the filing, Lambert raises defenses of “failure to state a claim, failure to timely register copyright,unclean hands, consent, rescission (failure of consideration and fraud), and others. Lambert is seeking an award his costs, disbursements, and attorney’s fees.”
In separate news, LA County swamped by women volunteering for jury duty. Court administers are puzzled by the recent spike in interest is being on a jury.

He was unlike any contestant Idol audiences had ever seen: a makeup-wearing, octave-defying, glam-rocking showman who could wail with the best of them (and did he ever) and hold back when need be, to deliver a nuanced, pitch-perfect performance. Each of Adam Lambert’s season 8 numbers told a story, from the anguish of “Tracks of My Tears” to the cautious optimism of “Black and White,” the haunting “Mad World” and the dramatic “Ring Of Fire,” but more importantly: they entertained. In a truly game-changing act, the show had to learn to keep up with Lambert’s theatricality and in turn introduced more adventurous lighting and effects. It’s a benefit future Idols, like season 10’s James Durbin who was allowed fire for one of his performances, would reap for years to come and just another reason to bow down to Lambert’s Idol throne. In 2009, Season Eight runner-up Adam Lambert eclipsed that year’s winner Kris Allen from the very start and has since been the quintessential Problem Child for 19 and Sony. The eyeliner-wearing glam rocker recalled a punk aesthetic while belting out poppy dance anthems like Madonna and Lady Gaga. Lambert’s edginess was both an asset and a liability. In 2009, the market was looking for the "other," but Lambert was a loose cannon, and that could hurt potential sales. If the Idol Machine picked him up, he could be trouble from the start – yet with the potential for a high payout. Lambert's position in the matrix could shift up or down following the release of his new album, Trespassing, in March.
Lambert has potential, but his brand needs constant nurturing and policing to survive. Problem Children can become Stars or Dogs. They have the potential for high growth but they require significant investments of time and money and a lot of nurturing.
