Unfortunate because I'm a big fan of him as a artist! *you're forgetting three important words: in my opinion! I'm all about open dialogue but will not tolerate being bullied about my opinion. I've programmed radio for a long time, I'm extremely good at it. *not even close! The reviews from actual critics are not good. Only 131 plays in the entire country this week, 31of those overnight *hey now, don't be angry, that tude is uncalled for. And being treated like this will ensure the song doesn't get played! *my dear YOU are making fans of this amazing artist look bad. Yeah, this has been posted before in the Numbers thread. She is a PD from Buffalo. We angsted about it for a while yesterday and then we moved on. It IS the opinion of just ONE person, so while not happy puppies, it's not the end of the world either. |

I have deleted my tl:dr post in the interest of peace and - gdi - am once again too late to the horse thrashing! But I am unable to let go of one point.
Personally, I'm not worried (yet) based on history of many album releases and that it is early days and I'm not giving much weight to one not very impressive radio guy.
HOWEVER, when you whip people up, extol the importance of radio play, the importance of this first single, etc - and then lend credence to some random radio guy's assertion that the outlook is not good - and hey Radio isn't the important thing anyway (when the drumbeat has always been the importance of radio play and single success to power the album) -- THEN please, please don't be surprised, condescending and/or dismissive of people who respond with concern. It is a reasonable response given the circumstances.
The trend to 'pat' and talk down to anyone who expresses alarm or concern at news that merits concern is not respectful in the true sense. 'Angst-shaming' should not be our go-to. This isn't Pleasantville or Stepford. (And let's be fair - most of the angst finger pointers have had their panties in a tangle about something at some point over last 3 yrs. Hey, you know you have, don't look at me that way.)
Some people (inclding pwkt reportedly) were making noises like BTIKM is done or on its way to being written off and 'hey there'll be more singles soon.' And how was this supposed to affect people who've been putting heart and soul into supporting BTIKM and the all important radio play - and still are?
As for Adam, I'm sure he sits in contentious meetings about what numbers mean ALL THE TIME (and pros/cons of singles along with second guessing). I don't think a little intense dialogue of 'what does this mean' would phase him or depress him even if he saw it. I think he would respect how hard this fandom tries to understand the nuts and bolts necessary to his success.
(YES my original was much, much longer - really.)
Finally I love Hoppers (more than ice cream) - I would be Watson to her Holmes (BBC version of course) anyday. She can even ask what goes on in my funny little dull brain. She haz FACTS instead of inflammatory speculation -- AND LOLLIES! What's not to love really?
