Thanks guys!! I remember that young 8th grader so well. I would like to think I made a difference and I think I did. He was very shy at first when the other students headed for the cafeteria and he stayed behind. But he got to the point where he would laugh and smile when he plopped down in a seat in front of my desk. He really needed someone to listen and not dismiss his concerns. It is terrible that some teachers today would be afraid of losing their jobs for recommending a book or having a dialogue with a student who needed an ear.
Keith Urban will be the mentor for top 3 on Idol. He was the country Idol before so if Luke leaves, I think they will slide him right into that spot.

All of the above comments on the drag queen readings and Adam's response. The internet is a dangerous thing. People I knew in another fandom label me as a "Demoncrat". Oh well, I go to a christian church every Sunday and sing in the choir. There are several gay persons in the congregation and the choir. No one is a groomer. (I will not go further into politics per the guidelines for this forum.) Indeed.

I respect Adam's passion. There is a lot of misunderstanding out there about drag in general. He has tried to clear that up, but I'm not sure it will make a difference to many people. As far as the whole dressing=up thing goes, some children (and adults) find circus clowns and their extreme clothing and makeup absolutely terrifying. And yet circus clowns are intended to entertain children. I think drag has its place, but not everyone agrees that children should be exposed to it. Parents should have that option for their own kids. This whole thing is just one small part of a larger attempt to marginalize people who are different and to literally take away their rights. Then why are there no laws preventing clowns from performing for children. It still makes no sense.

Some kids are afraid of clowns. Some kids are scare of Halloween stuff and scary movies. You can't outlaw everything that some people might be afraid of. It's the sexual element of drag that is the problem, even though a guy in drag reading a library book to children isn't meant to be a sexual thing. The aim is to learn to accept people of all kinds. At least I think that's what it's about.

At least I think that's what it's about. After years of watching Adam attend drag shows or watching RuPaul now and then I have yet to see to see them as "sexual". Maybe I'm not the intended audience. I've seen them encourage the sexy, the skimpy, the asset emphasizing. But mostly I see them as acting - a reason to show a different personality, doing a gig, working (and not as a "working girl").
