I'm coming the sad realization that certain things which should be iconic, which fall under the category of " Never Forget", are being forgotten. There is a reason why the phrase "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it" exists. The fact that so many people, particularly younger people, simply don't recognize that picture frightens me. I don't blame FAULT. Apparently an intern put up the image (which yes, was fan-generated months ago). Older management immediately yanked it as soon as they saw it. Yes, even an intern SHOULD know that picture. Absolutely. I am saddened, but not shocked, that they did not. I applaud FAULT's swift action. I also applaud that Adam's fans firmly, but calmly, pointed out the inappropriateness of the picture in a way that FAULT could fix the error. FAULT has been very supportive of Adam for his upcoming album. They are embarrassed by their mistake. Let them maintain face right before the publication of their much-lauded Adam issue. I still think we're talking about two different things: recognizing one specific image from Birkenau, and being aware of the Holocaust. I think it's important not to make assumptions of ignorance about someone just because they don't recognize that picture. Most images from the holocaust are much more graphic and recognizable.

I usually have pretty good recall for images. I have been to the Museum of Tolerance in L.A. countless times, interviewed Holocaust survivors and recently worked very closely with one on a project of his. He has worked with Elie Wiesel and a documentary on him is in final stages of editing. I've seen tons of documentaries on the Holocaust and Auschwitz in addition to films set there and I still don't know if I recognized it immediately when I first saw that image.
I clicked on the manip very quickly when it first surfaced and clicked right off because I thought it rather meh. I think my initial reaction was that it was in an industrial or prison setting. I barely looked at the background, tbh.
It wasn't until someone mentioned it that I looked again, and yes, at that point it was obvious, once I knew the context. But at first glance, I did not place it, I'm pretty sure.

We're talking about the same thing. The recognition of one picture. Frankly, if people didn't know about the Holocaust, they wouldn't care enough to be embarrassed by a picture of it. Or to know why it was so hideously inappropriate to use it as a lovingly humorous backdrop for an adored gay, Jewish singer. Particularly on his birthday.

Thank you!! It starts in 45 minutes but Adam is second, so he's on maybe even 30+ minutes later.

Bamafan, justwishin and I had a birthday lunch and are back at justwishin's house. Bamafan is dressed for the occasion (as always!) in her Adamtopia t-shirt, medges and skeleton key necklace. justwishin is in the kitchen preparing our party and won't let us see what she's doing. Hmmm
