Listening to the radio is one thing and paying to watch someone perform is another.

It may be the same in the UK. Just having a hit single (or four) and a lot of radio airplay does not make an artist a concert draw. Many of the biggest concert artists have modest record sales and get little to no airplay. Others like Bruno and Ke$ha and Jordin Sparks, can get airplay and sell recorded music but not sell concert tickets. Adam was very unusual for being about to be able to sell out so many concerts. He is an amazing live performer and gave much more than the cost of a ticket at each and every show. ETA: Gelly14 -- ITA you nailed it. Two different things. One more thought. Only the US, most of the former soviet union countries and Asia have to put up with the f'ed up promotional radio system BUT other countries' radio end up playing the US Top 40 hits. So a heavily promoted US artist -- like Gaga, Ke$ha, Bruno, Katy Perry -- will be played worldwide. The advent of the Internet video and radio has made it better in many ways by making radio less important, but more connected and interrelated.

This just popped up on twitter. Not enough Adam, but it is fun watching him on stage! He's so beautiful!

There are only a few songs that ever had major airplay and yet they are one of the biggest touring acts year after year. That's because their fans loove them and are super loyal and because they apparently put on one hell of a show. Never seen them, not my kind of music generally, but gotta respect that. I'd compare them to, like, the Grateful Dead who are always touring and making big money doing so, even though to my knowledge they were never a radio band. I remember them having one radio hit when I was a kid in the 80's but that's about it.

We have Kesha, Katy Perry and Josh Groban all of whom we like. But, I just can't get excited about seeing any of them live.

It won't even play for me. :-[ ETA: Great touring acts with "no" radio -- I nominate Fish and The Grateful Dead along with Dave Mathews. But other great touring acts include the Stones, Madonna, BEPs, U2 and on. I think Adam will be on that list as one of the great live acts.
