It was a night of powerful, operatic rock for more than two hours.
The show went on with the band taking the stage at 8:10 p.m. to a theatrical entrance behind a huge screen which lifted to reveal the trio and the rest of their band which included a bassist and keyboardist.
Behind the stage was something, dare we say, unique to any concert we’ve been to. Fans were seated in opera-style constructed balcony’s overlooking the stage. It added to the ambiance of the evening.
The spotlights at this show focused on Lambert along with original Queen members May on lead guitar and Taylor on drums. Each had a number of showstopping moments with each one also getting plenty of individual stage time to showcase their talents.
What can you say about Lambert as a lead singer, other than he truly is spectacular. Yes, no one is, was or ever will be Freddie Mercury. And Lambert doesn’t set out to try to imitate the legend. Instead, he does his own thing, and by doing so, he gives much more than justice to each song by delivering one flawless, powerful note after another, while only making subtle changes throughout each song to make them his own.
