Whenever I hear someone say that Adam should be filling arenas on his own, my heart twitches a bit. It is a total mystery why he doesn't fill larger venues. Don't get me wrong, I love his solo show at whatever size. But a guy with that voice and those looks and that personality should fill venues larger than he does. It's a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. I think Adam solo should be filling arenas as well but it is not a mystery to me why he does not. He never got the massive radio play and exposure that current arena acts enjoyed. Radio play, award nominations/performances, label support also play a part in who gets on the big streaming playlists. And unfortunately for Adam, they were more accepting of promoting younger LGBT artists when his time had sorta passed for pop. He was already almost 30 when he came on the pop scene. And he/label put out his 2nd album 3 years later as he was getting older (and pop artists younger) and got hardly any radio play. I don't think artists need radio play always to play arenas. But those who got massive play on multiple charts in the beginning, for several years, were able to hold their audience and move to larger venues. Having said that, I am so thankful the QAL gave Adam the arena/stadium joy to go along with his solo career. One of the questions Paula asked on Idol was why hadn't he already been discovered. Back then I said it was because he had never been on a big enough stage. Little piano bar songs weren't going to push him to the top. Now it's how could he could possibly find a bigger stage than with Queen? For his solo career I think the "solo" is a problem. Women tend to do ok with solo acts but men are mostly bigger as part of a band. I think his natural inclination is a bit toward being in a band but Idol puts out solo artists. For him of course going solo means he can do Queen. The stars were just aligned for the collaboration.

I can think of lots of men who had solo careers. I agree about guys and bands though. Remember how Michael Jackson died around the time that Adam was getting so much hype and there was even some talk about the King of Pop mantle being passed on. I think it just takes a lot of talent and a huge amount of luck for the stars to align just right to create a huge star. I am happy that the partnership with Queen has allowed Adam to sing for us on huge stages. I think it has also helped him secure his various television gigs. It keeps his name out there!
