Quick recap from Chicago #2 Halloween. Babs 12 and I went to Halloween concert and we’re surprised at the #of newbies there. All around us were first timers; we had good seats in section 111 right across from the B stage. The newbies weren’t as impressed as I thought they might be with Adam, but Dr.Bri (who amazingly still runs up the ramp from B stage to main stage—anyone here old enough to remember Geritol- a product supposed to increase energy from the 50’s 60’s? Sir Brian must be consuming vats of the stuff. His eyes still shine with the Adrenalin rush, though occasionally he looks a little tired—heck, I look more than a little tired from getting to the United Center from Idaho—and, no I didn’t walk across states, United airlines got me there.
Adam was looking real mod rock in his platinipum wig, and he seemed to be trying to get Roger’s attention with his head banging, but Roger rather busy on the drums during WWRY. He didn’t wear it for the entire encore. Peeps near us were amazed with the production and the special effects. They also had surround sound with extra speakers from the back. Opulent next to me go to beau chop concerts from country to Rock and know a lot of writers singers from Nashville who hang out at their house in KY. I mention this because they were really impressed with the production quality, and they have seen Pink Floyd, The Stones, (we’re supposed to see Aerosmith, but Steven Tyler ‘s throat did not allow), Garth Brooks, and about 15 other concerts in the last year or so. They love the Queen catalog, but as I said more impressed with production and Sir Bri than Adam—though they did raise their cups to WWTLF. They admitted that they have worn out records and tapes and CD’s fron Freddie’s era, so somehow they were expecting Adam to sound more like Freddie!?.?.!!.
Others were rapt throughout at Adam’s voice and the pyro, and the new robot/skeletons that have been added. It also seemed to me that the tried to highlight Neil more, spreading up and down the ramp during a couple of songs besides UP. No TYMD last night.
It was an enthusiastic crowd, but Babs and I have seen ore involved crowds throughout the years we’ve attended concerts. As others have said ( and maybe cuz it was Halloween) there were more inebriated talkers than ever before, but fewer people who really went total Halloween as far as costumes go. They had a 360 degree camera at the venue and many were hamming it up there. Babs and I decided the180 degree view was our personal limit, so we did not participate.
We were saving our enthusiasm for Radio Gaga clapping. It was multigenerationally packed, and Sir Bri got a real kick out of some young headbangers around the B stage. Really played to them because they didn’t have cameras. They were into the music. As the vids show Adam was Mr.Sparkle all night. I’m thinking the Harley is now so over the top that it kind of takes away from its impact. Adam did have some cool moves on the various iterations of the Frankenboots, but he’s comfortably into the spectacle the performance. It’s just a feeling, (don’t ask me for evidence) but I think Sir Bri dominated more than Adam. The drum footage from when Roger was young added a nice showcase for him. It seemed more slick than dangerous performance-wise for all of them. YMMV of course. Well, I’m in Denver and thu are going to be boarding…
