Adam did a fantastic performance of Nessum Dorma. I have seen Aretha and Jennifer Hudson perform the song, and like Adam, they received great praise for their performances. They are not opera singers and not planning to become opera singers but did stunning renditions nonetheless. There are not too many in the pop/r&b/rock world who can perform this well at this level. This is my favourite reaction video to Adam’s Nessun Dorma. So much interesting technical detail.
These men seem to know what they are talking about and comment on things I found fascinating….making shapes with his lips like Pavarotti for example. Who’d have thought that was a thing?
They start a little cynically perhaps but end by saying that this is what they’d expect in any opera house in the world and that Adam doesn’t need to change a thing (at least, not very much). ‘Way to go, Adam Lambert’.

I totally agree that these guys were very impressed with Adam's performance of ND. But like I said the other day, they didn't seem aware that this was not a performance that Adam practiced for days or weeks in advance (like Aretha and JHud most likely did). If Adam had planned to sing it well in advance, he likely would have worked on the details, pronunciation, etc. As Aretha and JHud probably did. Adam sang it as a last-minute throw-in. Somehow. I just wish these guys knew that. I think they might have been even more impressed. Forgive me for being a super fan-girl about this.
Needless to say, these guys were WOWED. They know a true opera performance level singer when they hear one. BRAVO!
Now, I'm going to watch that video again, just to bask in the glow.

Sam Johnson, I think his name is, gives very thorough feedback. I've watched a lot of his videos. I believe he's a singing teacher. ETA: John Henny Vocal Studio is another one that has done Adam reactions, in great detail. I love those technical reaction videos because they prove just how skilled Adam is, how precise. It's not just that he sounds good, but why he sounds good. |

But I think it is more important that the general public who saw the performances and were impressed and unlikely to pick it apart and judging by opera standards. Also, Aretha was asked at the last minute to sing ND at the Grammy's when Pavarotti (who was scheduled to perform) had to pull out. I saw that performance and she was stunning. But for most of us, it was a fantastic performance even if someone with opera training picked it apart (don't know if they did). I think the same applies to Adam. We know a wonderful performance and one that we enjoy when we hear it. |

Amen to all that, lurleene. And thanks for letting me know that Aretha's performance was last minute, too. I loved her. She was one of a kind, just like Adam. I think most top-end singers give 1,000% no matter what the circumstances.
Wondering what he will sing at the Westminster Abbey event?
