Well - I´m impressed. That´s from the radio station in Berlin that had the interview yesterday. They let Adam draw - Berlin When is he going to stop amazing me??!! NEVER!!! He will always amaze us. You know, he could raise a lotta $$ for charity from fans if he auctioned off some drawings. I know I would pay way too much for one. j/s

juniemoon, that cartoon is hysterical and soooo true! That is pretty much even the way numbers' people look at the charts! You are correct that sales figures come from Soundscan. There are also radio based charts. We refer to them as Mediabase charts. These show how many spins, any song, in any given format is getting nation wide. Many people believe radio spins is what makes a hit. Top 40 is good. Being Top 20 on Mediabase is considered a hit!! Top 10 is a big hit! These numbers may or may not correlate with sales. Radio stations use these charts as one criteria to decide if they want to add a song. For instance, KIIS probably doesn't add unitl a song is Top 20 or Top 10. They just added Kelly's new song this week and that song has been killing it rising up the charts. Then there are the Billboard charts which use multiple sources for their rankings, radio spins, sales, and I've heard they use other things like Video views and maybe even places like Rhapsody<< not sure about that one. They are more mysterious about their criteria. Right now, in the numbers thread, we are watching radio spins, via Mediabase charts. Here is the Mediabase chart for HAC. It is updated daily. There is also one for CHR but Adam hasn't made Top 40 there yet. Some people have memberships at these industry sites and can access more info, but I do not. Hope this all helps you a little. ^^^^ www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insideradio/charts.asp?format=3&showyear=y&dpt=n Thanks, that helps a lot! So, there are three entities here referred to as "charts": 1. Mediabase. Tracks how many radio spins a song is getting in various radio formats. Adam is in the top forty now on the Mediabase "Hot Adult Contemporary" chart. Radio stations use Mediabase charts as one criteria for whether to add a song. Leading to infinite mirrors: or maybe just: 2. Soundscan. Tracks physical and digital units sold. Fairly straightforward. 3. Billboard means whatever they want it to mean so they can get the results they want. Very interesting!
