I remember this. He is just great. He sings, he dances, he acts (wish some would give him more of a chance). He really can do anything. One of the most talented (if not THE most) people I have ever seen. Not many have everything like Adam does. Then throw in the looks and the personality. Just an amazing human being. I so enjoyed watching this again. Thank you for posting it. |

I don't follow rap. But I was watching a segment on female rappers that I found interesting. They talked of one who had done great early in her career. But she is now 30 and her age worked against her when her label pushed her to twerk like her younger counterparts with their more salacious performances. It didn't fit or work for her. And at 41, they refer to Nicki Minaj as "Grandma" (yikes). No wonder so many artists are trying to transition into country or rock where youth does not seem to be the most important factor in a career. But I doubt those genres are an option for female rappers who age out and can no longer compete with those in their twenties.
It also talked about the Grammy's and how it is the record labels who push for their artists to rise on the charts then it gives them the opportunity to get behind them and push for a Grammy. Of course, we knew that. When Adam was nominated for a Grammy with a song from his first album, the head of RCA at the time fought to get him radio play and obviously the support of his label worked in his favor. And he to got a nomination. The head of RCA left (he worked his magic for Frank Ocean on another label) before Adam's second album and unfortunately he has not had any label fight for him since. But I thought it was funny when they said Mariah Carey only had 5 Grammy's to Beyonce's 32. I thought, geeze, I only wish for one for our guy. HA. And naturally, they were crying yet again over Beyonce never winning Album of the Year. Oh the horror, she only has more Grammy's than anyone else!

And in some genres it is just easier to win because the completion is less competitive. I think John Legend has over 10 Grammy's in different R&B formats and nominations in Pop. Brandi Carlile has about 10 in rock, country and Americana. I still don't understand why Adam has always been limited to Pop where he had no chance of a win or even a nomination, other than the one. No one ever seemed interested in getting him exposure in multiple genres. And in order to even be considered, you have to get radio play and chart on some format. But when he was getting radio play, it was dead-end Pop or nothing. Pop is just dominated by females and Harry and a few other big selling male artists and I doubt it will change. So it is a good thing that Adam has many other opportunities. And he does not seem interested in charting anywhere but will continue to make music he likes and music he can tour with. He is one of the lucky few successful enough to have those options so good for him. |

Except for the Oscars (because I do love movies), I watch zero awards shows. They have become cringe-worthy to me. And while I may agree with who wins, it's all such an over-blown sham. But of course, those awards give the winners lots of cred that pays off in many ways. Do I wish Adam would win a few much-deserved Grammys? Sure, I do. And I will jump for joy when it happens. But I love him just as much without the statues. Following him is an incredible, eye-opening ride.
